Yeah, I don't listen to anything with Satanic lyrics, I avoid that stuff, bad for the soul in my opinion! Dude, that's awesome! Old Darkane merch is way hard to come by!

This is actually a historical theme from Rome days. Its from a book Quo Vadis. Not sure if you are faimilar with it but anyways its not all that black & white here. They needed to blame someone for some misfortunes or evil tbat was brought upon Rome...Guess who got to be the scapegoat.

I haven't read the book but am somewhat familiar with the history of the persecution of the early church and understand that it was oftentimes politically motivated. I do know that the Roman Empire attempted to snuff out any ideologies that they felt could be a threat to their power. Regardless of the exact motivation behind it, the real truth is that throughout history, and still to this day, people of all beliefs are persecuted and even killed due to their religious beliefs, which is the most disgusting, loathsome act I can think of. That being said, putting this type of slogan on a shirt is extremely lame, unfortunate, and an indication of complete selfish ignorance.

If these slogans motivate people to at least google what it stands for, it means something was achieved. Many bands, including Behemoth, use historical events that turned many metalheads into amateur historians. Just look at Marduk. Who knew what is Wormwood before that album. Among many others things, these slogans may seem foolish but have greater meaning or point of reference if people open their mind. I doubt that Adam wants to literally throw Christians to the lions. I woukd be surprised if anyone would be...

Sure, something was achieved, though it's obvious to me that the band are looking to turn heads, not history book pages. Having been in numerous touring bands who sell merchandise, I can tell you with absolute certainty that groups know what sells, and to whom, and they print their merch accordingly. Does the average metalhead want Christians thrown to the lions? Probably not. Does the band? They lyrically profess to, so I don't support them or their work. Think of it this way: My band have a picture of someone you love, respect and care for on our shirts, however the picture is of that individual being raped, beaten, burned alive, et cetera. You'd be insulted, correct? It would be weird if you weren't. That's how I feel when I see these designs.

vkok's picture

maybe I'm dreaming but the front has a greater meaning. One lion is upside down, the saint has his eyes shut. The book speaks of betrayal and turning everything upside down to protect its own pride. No point of arguing...in any case Behemoth achieved purpose they set before them. The attention is there. How we interpret, its our vanity...
