Can't pick just one sorry! Top tunes and killer bits from them:
1. Angel Of Death - The slow middle riff and the double bass at the end
2. Raining Blood - Intro riff then that chug...
3. At Dawn They Sleep - Verse riff and fast bit at the end
4. Spirit In Black - The double time drums - after the chorus with the wailing guitars all over it - it followed by the fast riff
5. Haunting The Chapel - Both intro riffs and the crazy atonal solos that carry on right to the end
Just noticed - I didn't pick a single tune from 'South of Heaven'! Schoolboy error. Allow me to correct that:
6. Live Undead - Total drum clinic from start to finish.
Lombardo's drums sound killer on the whole LP but I wish the rhythm guitars were louder and punchier in the mix.
Reading about the real-life "Angel of Death" seriously made me have trouble sleeping for a few nights. Everything that the Nazi regime put innocent people through still blows my mind, but "human experiment" are two words that I never even want to think of going together, especially in the context that they were made to.
Listening to the song with that knowledge makes me feel a terror I straight up don't feel when listening to ANY other Slayer song, even when first hearing the ghastly solo to Raining Blood. I still love their less "realistic' songs from No Mercy and even on RiB too, but truth will always be scarier than fiction. Angel of Death is Slayer's magnum opus, absolutely deserves the hype🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
yeah that dipshit dr mengle was some sick fuck the whole part in the song that goes like this (Pumped with fluid, inside your brain
Pressure in your skull begins pushing through your eyes
Burning flesh, drips away
Test of heat burns your skin, your mind starts to boil) all actually happened and all because some sick little shit with a stupid stache hated the jews
