I used to be really into this band. I even think this was a pre-order from Napalm, probably the first shirt the band ever did officially.
Nowadays I really couldn't care less about them. But when listening to the album again before making this post I found that it's still enjoyable. It's hackneyed and dumb for sure, but it's the kind of stupidity that's quite endearing. And I'd argue that some of the songs are good compositions on their own as well.

I agree nowadays they're more tongue n cheek humour. Still enjoy em live fun night out. But prefer their older stuff.

That's the problem with most every gimmick band for me. You can only tell the same joke so many times before you either have to get serious and actually do some more in depth writing. Or just go all out self parody. Obviously Alestorm chose the latter. I thought they were quite enjoyable when I saw them in 2013 as well. But I haven't seen them since.
