Saw some pics from Metallica's gigs in Belgrade and in Warsaw , James wore two separated vests , one with a Black Sabbath backpatch and one with a Motorhead one .
So, what do you think about James gettin' his youth clothing back on the stage?
I think that this is a great thing! Hopefully, as Bludrayne said, it's a true return to metal roots, and bodes well for the future of Metallica as a truly metal band.
I kind of think it is part of the popularity of people even not in the metal scene wearing patched vests I don't really see it as something sincere. maybe I'm wrong...
Well in a way yes, but those are what we call poseres, anyway thats a conversation for a different day though. And @Terroristic-Hammerings, but since he's a metal god and the only guy in the band who is still clearly a metalhead through and through, I think it's legit. Or could be a midlife crisis for all I know. But either way, those are some pretty sweet vests and I think he should upload them onto here haha
it looks awesome! y'know i am actually starting to rather like modern metallica (first playing with dave and now this), hell i might even get the new album when it comes out
I guess it's nice he still remembers his roots and all the classic bands, I just hope (and I really, really do) that this doesn't start a major hype among the metallica youth, which creates bullshit jackets.
Why should this happen? The bands on his jacket are classic metal bands and why shouldn't young people don't start a battle jacket? Are they not trve enough?
Maybe he ment something like this: "Oh James had this band's patch on his vest. Man I want one even though I haven't heard of that" or something like that?
Like Vomitoxic said: in the vein of 'James has it so I want it too', not about being 'true' or not. Believe me, I really hate the whole thing about being 'true' or not, just be yourself and enjoy YOUR musical taste ;)
Most of the new 'tallica fans probably haven't even heard about the bands on his vest, which is sad. Any fan of old-metallica knows about their hardcore-punk-nwobhm influences. They may have lost their sound, but they still know their metal http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lrcd72KZ8l1qe303y.jpg
I don't know about everywhere else, but in North America, this is definitely a trend. I walk through the downtown of my city and see early 20s trendy people wearing vests with imaginary band logos (looks like a back patch, but actually a clothing company logo). These are the same girls who starting shaving one side of their heads, like a really wide, one sided mohawk. Fashion irritates me, especially when it rips off the underground scenes and make our styles trendy.
Yeah, I know this kind of jackets. The jackets are pre-ripped to look more 'cool' and then there are usually text like "Hooligan", "Anarchy" or "Punk". Fuck that shit!
Haha yeah, it's funny how it's now fashionable to have tight jeans, white hi-tops and the fashion stores are selling studded biker jackets and vests. Or actually it's quite repulsive, I'm really waiting for that to pass and something else coming trendy than the way I'm wearing. Well I'm starting to notice a real 70's hippie revival amongst the same people - Quite controversial how girls with plastic nails, tons of chemicals in their purses and false hair are wearing hippie stuff which symbolizes being a part of nature etc...
@Hetfields kutten:
Even if he didn't make em on his own.. As long as he supports the band he likes, he's better than these "it's rare and expensive? - I need it for my battlejacket"-assholes. Here on tss I haven't seen any, though.
I think that he looks great with these vest and I hope that he would use them more in the future. And I don't give a fuck if someone did them to him. There are some killer bands and patches in his jackets and it's great to see James supporting his favourite bands like this!
Haha reminds me of 22.4.2012 when i saw Judas Priest live. Rob Halford also had a jeans vest on some songs. The vest had Tankard and Mayhem patches on it :)
i was reading here many good points on the base-conversation. I also can see the point of DevilsForce.
But..hell...like vomitoxic said: maybe he dont was sewing this vest on his own (which i agree to DevilsForce..i dont think he made it by his own..haha) ..but as long the 'designer' used patches of Bands - HE (James) rly like and enjoy = its ok imo! lol I dont mind.
on my first vest/battlejacket/kutte...i also didnt sew anything on my own, i was a kid! 12 years old :P My grandpa was sewing - and i give him the patches for it :)
I gave up Metallica a long time ago. And everytime when they will release a new album there's some feeling that i must listen to it.. Maybe there will be a new "Metal Militia" song on it, but everytime it really disapoints me. So all these rumors about Metallica going back to it's roots by wearing battlejackets and bulletbelts? I don't believe it anymore.
Whoever the fuck sew the Patches on the Vest, the musical taste is great!
And these are truly the roots of Metallica! Lars Ulrich is known as a huge NWOBHM-Fan back in the days and even nowadays (don't really know) ... he also released this compilation back then: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Wave_of_British_Heavy_Metal_'79_Revisited
So I think this is the real shit that Metallica loved back then and who the hell knows if they doesn't listen to their youth heroes anymore?!
I think it is damn cool that James wears a vest to show tribute to mostly obscure Bands he was highly influenced like Aragorn, Picture, Ostrogoth, Riot, A II Z, Vardis, Weapon, Witchfinder General etc.
But I'm also sure he didn't made the vest himself, but who the fuck cares about that?! I like the message!

I didn't know James was a Witchfinder General fan, damn cool!

The whole band was influenced by the NWoBHM movement I believe.

i see this as a good thing, especially if it indicates a return to his metal roots. and tbh, its quite a nicely done one too.

Don't think so. Lars is the driving force of the band and he is the farthest thing from a metalhead.

Does anyone know what the patch is on the back of James's vest above the A 11 Z patch and under the Tank patch? http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/4348/45758346662714669610710.jpg

I'm taking a wild guess and i would say that it is Praying Mantis. It looks like their logo.

Your right, and hell yeah Aragorn rules! They should've been way bigger, just like most bands on his jacket and most NWOBHM bands in general.
