So I always wanted a white jacket, and I realized i could just bleach mine (I'm a little slow, I know). Anyways, an even dumber thing is how bad of an idea if i were to bleach it with the patches on it? Would it ruin the vest? Id bleach it in a bucket, not by washer machine. So tell me, is it a good idea or not?
I really don't recommend bleaching, I did that and it ruined the jacket, made the fabric tear and everything, it became very brittle and weak, totally ruined. It torn extrmely easy and had holes all over it. I would wait and buy one.

I soaked it in a bucket of bleach for about 5 minutes until fully wet, then took it out and hung it in the shower and just checked it every five minutes until it reached the desired colour. Once it is the colour you like just rinse it in cold water a few times to get the bleach out and then throw it in the washing machine.
I found no damage at all to the jacket and it's not thin or easy to rip at all. Just use normal household bleach, it's dirt cheap and should not cause any damage.
Maybe if you use industrial strength bleach or something it might destroy the jacket......who knows.
take off all your patches, bleah and put back on....... it's the only way... but then again.. you should have figured this out before you started sewing ;)

Really bad idea, bleach will ruin the patches. Is better to have more work and take the patches away and sew them again after you washed the vest.
