FUCK Gildan Blanks

Gorgoroth
Wed, 17/12/2025 - 04:37

I would like to say;

Fuck Gildan blanks. What once was an era in the 90s early 2000s of high quality, heavy cotton, thick collared band shirts, has been replaced by a bunch of retarded Gildan blanks with a million different versions all to distract you from them ALL being shit. Got a mayhem shirt recently on a Gildan soft style and the shirt is so thin it’s like public park bathroom toilet paper. Might as well rip it apart and wipe my ass with it. I’ve grown to the point where I won’t even buy shirts from bands I like unless it’s printed on a decent shirt. To add onto it, every single damn band under the sun prints on Gildan as a form of saving money. I’d bet you if they went back to high quality shirts, they’d make way more money than trying to save with the Gildan blanks. Anyone else fucking hate Gildan????

Gildan's "Premium Cotton" back in the day was a fine t-shirt but the Softstyle crap is everywhere now and it sucks asshole. When I see that skinny ass little Gildan tag at a merch booth (like at Blind Guardian last week with a $45 price tag) I walk away a richer man. Hanes Heavyweights were everywhere in the 2010s and most of mine from highschool even are still in great shape, I don't know what happened to those as the shirt-of-choice. But these Gildans are so bad I wouldn't even use one for a cum rag. I swear to fuck in the next 5 years I will buy a screen printing set-up and a stack of Los Angeles Apparel shirts just to re-introduce quality metal wear back into the ecosystem.

What's the price delta between a Gildan and a heavy weight T-shirt these days? Anyone know?

Gorgoroth's picture

Very true. Speaking of screen printers I’ve completely given up on band webshops (because of their high use rate of Gildan) and have opted to buy from individual small print shops like Cold World Vintage, Eternal Blasphemy, etc. even made a few myself. Not sure the price difference exactly. My heavy weight shirts I have are usually $50 but very worth it for the quality and vintage look. My gildan crap is usually $20-$30. Blanks, Gildan is maybe $3 a shirt and vintage Euro style shirts I’ve seen for $13-$18 a shirt

Love the soft style shirts because it's fucken hot here in Australia and they aren't too thick and heavy.

Gorgoroth's picture

I’d rather use the soft style shirts as a sweat rag than a shirt if I lived out there

thshirts's picture

They do shrink a lot, even when being washed in cold water. I usually buy them one size too big.

it's because most brands new are all "unisex" too , the cuts are terrible for guys AND for girls, worst of both worlds. part of the conspiracy to make men look more like women :)))

Agreed

It all began with Motley Crue...

like road trail tyres, they get you from A to B but suck in dirt and suck on the road

I fucking hate and refuse to buy Gildan. I also believe that part of the reason for the explosion in vintage merch prices in the past few years is partially due to Gildan being almost the only thing used anymore. If you hold a modern Gildan shirt in one hand and a good Cygnus, Delta or Anvil blank in the other you can feel the difference, the old ones literally weigh twice as much.

Some of the older Gildan models from the 2000s were good, but once the Softstyle era started around a decade ago, quality took a massive nosedive to sub-bootleg levels

Gorgoroth's picture

Agreed. I’m a huge fan of vintage print sites or individual profiles because of the quality compared to Gildan horse shit. I’d happily pay double th price for a Gildan boot for a double the quality boot.

To "Yes, And..." this topic rather than have someone see this and learn nothing new;

A couple tee/hoodie manufacturers I can speak to the quality of are StanleyStella and No Sweat. Both are durable, great feeling, and No Sweat even offer to screen print designs themselves. My Stanleystella Coffin Mulch hoodie still feels like new and I've had it on pretty much all winter lmao

nameless_rites's picture

It’s also worth mentioning that there is no real “Gildan brand”, it’s a company name that was sold years ago and shirts now produced under the Gildan brand are often wildly different items, produced by different manufacturers in different countries. The “Gildan hammer” shirts you see now are even quite nice, but rare because the blanks are more expensive

Can confirm that i got a sick of it all Judge and a nasty t shirt on those you can certainly feel them weight a lot more instead of a regular Gildan t shirt

These days B&C #190 or higher kicks Gildan's ass.

Into Glory Ride's picture

B&C 190, Sol Imperial and Delta.

hahaha - " so thin it’s like public park bathroom toilet paper."

Thinner shirts look better if you work out. The thicker shirts look better if you got a belly.
Thinner shirts are most of the time the early original versions, thicker shirts are usually the reprints.

Something it also completely ruined is by far they have some of the WORST looking tags. I mean I wouldn't really care if most shirts were not on gildan but compared to the old ones with nice designs that fit the shirts, we got a blocky logo that sucks! I am not kidding when I say that those old tags are part of why old shirts are appreciated so much. Also this sort of stuff will make bootlegging a lot easier for the next generation. "Hmm I want to bootleg this rare shirt?" "What tag should I use?" Probably gildan!

Steven Price's picture

Comfort colors is just as bad if not worse, even the tag looks like bootleg garbage. Alstyle has cheaped out too but still beats gildan and comfort colors.

Gorgoroth's picture

Gildan tags are cheap garbage and thin. At least CC has a thick tag resembling 2000's style tags, and the shirts are better quality. Especially the collars.

Into Glory Ride's picture

Used to love Gildan Softstyle because of my physique/build, but now I hate them with equal passion.
Gildan Ultra still rules supreme in my experience though

voivod2015's picture

I have a Metal Church shirt from when they were here back in 2019, and even though the tag says """L""", it fits me more like M. Quite sure the promoter cheaped out and used Asian-size shirts - the shirt from MC's 2023 tour I have actually fits more like XL to me (it's still L though like the 2019).

Can you make a topic for the Gildan and Fruit of Loom sweaters and hoodies, they also suck and have been for a long time?

DevilzForce's picture

Russel hoodies and shirts are amazing.

meetyourmaster's picture

Yeah, not to be the proverbial old man yelling at clouds, but it really is a sign of the instantly-gratifying times; tag bothering you? Great, we made it tear-away. Shirt too heavy and starchy? Great, we wove one out of a fucking cloud for you. I think a lot of local artists use them because, admittedly, they are more affordable to print on, but I kind of wince when I see a national artist with a budget behind them using Gildan blanks. Even the modern heavy cotton ones feel flimsy compared to the ones that went out in the 1990s and early 2000s. Hanes still makes a decent heavy cotton blank though.

thshirts's picture

Also, they come from more then 1 factory. Some Gildan now a days could be better the others. I remember the 2017 versions not shrinking at all and most of them looked faded when being new. I still have 1 Small shirt that still is 70cm long. I've seen high praised XXL shirts on here shrinking below 64cm.

SouthernHermit's picture

It's prevented me from purchasing a few quality looking shirts because I know after wearing them for two or three times they're gonna stretch and fit like a tent on me. Brand is absolute garbage.
