I dont' like the actual scene, but in old school Death you have Massacra and Agressor. No Return and Loudblast are very good too.
In black metal, you have the entire choice. Last time I've seen statistics, France was no1 with the most bands on territory. Usually it's just local bands, but it's good enough to give a try. Try with bands frmo Oaken Shield label, or Osmose record, it's an old french label, who use to sign since the 90's extreme bands like Sad'Ex', Diocletian, first Immortal stuff, Abominator, Impiety and so on.
