I saw this on a Facebook group and wanted to ask y’all the same: what’s your holy grail of rare-ass merch? whether it be t-shirts, longsleeves, patches, vinyl - whatever, really.
I got one of my big ones recently: the Exit-13 longsleeve ripping on Nirvana, but I’ve been on the prowl for these three forever:
Merzbow Venereology longsleeve
Man Is The Bastard Hello Kitty shirt
Gore Beyond Necropsy longsleeve

I have selected three of my personal merchandise 'grails' :
1) The rarest back patch I have is probably the sealed Iron Maiden - Poweslave mummy back patch from 1984. I already love it because it is one of my favorite Eddies, but I've never seen another collector with this back patch. I'm quite sure it is not a one of a kind, but for sure it is rare as hell.

2) Although I think there are some Maiden back patches out there that are more rare, the Maiden - Stranger in a Strange Land back patch is seen as the 'Holy grail' of Maiden back patches. I was lucky enough to get my hands on it.

3) Another personal favorite is there Rare 'dark version' of the Maiden - Somewhere in Time back patch. No Idea why it looks as it does, but my guess is pressing in which they still had to find out the color, or, a pressing in which they ran out of some color. Never seen this particular version before, and in the side by side pictures I made you can see how strongly it differs from the 'yellow'' and 'orange' versions.

Burzum first album LP on DSP, with Varg's address, lyric sheet and all. Definitely my top 1.

ha, I wonder if anyone lives at that address anymore. Maybe they still get letters to Varg occasionally

I had several holy grails( (mainly patches and t-shirts) through the years but I am extremely fortunate to have obtain them all. My first holy grail was an original vintage Slayer RIB patch. Some others are : Original Immolation Dawn of possession patch, Carcass Tools of the trade patch, Sepultura Escape to the Void backpatch. Regarding t-shirts. I love all my vintage t-shirts. But I am EXTREMELY happy that I own an original Entombed Left hand path t-shirt and an original Slayer Dead skin mask t-shirt. Those 2 are my absolute holy grails !

Whoa that Slayer shirt is nuts. I’d love to get one of those at some point. How long were you searching for it?

The first time I saw it was at eBay on an auction. My jaw dropped and immediately wanted to get it. Of course I didn't won the auction (the final price was 3x what I was able to pay). After a couple of months a guy posted it here and we made a trade. I was incredible lucky because is a very rare t-shirt that hardly ever comes up for sale or trade

I would have considered a "holy grail" a piece you do not own yet but wish to obtain one day actually.
Anyway, i don't know if it is a holy grail per se / by definition, and it's nothing compared to much of the vintage Maiden stuff here for example, but i never really cared for these and for me personally (as the title suggests ;) ) my Urfaust - Geist ist Teufel shirt is very important and dear to me and thus: a holy grail.
It's the very first shirt they ever put out back in the days.

Yeah I generally meant stuff you’re seeking out, but hey, if you can actually land this stuff I think it still counts! And it’s personal, I suppose.
Great shirt by the way!

Good point on the 'Holy Grail' terminology. There are many back patches which I would love to add to my collection, but my most wanted ones are:
Iron Maiden - Stranger in a Strange Land (version 2)
This back patch is a different version than that I already have. I think this one is even more rare than the Stranger back patch that I already have. Can't wait to get my hands on it, but first I have some (fun) hunting to do 😆

Iron Maiden - Powerslave mummy
This is not a licensed back patch but man this is an absolute killer. Never seen one pop up, but when it does, I'm on it! One of my favorite Eddies, and especially with this red color it is even better than the classic blue one.

Hell yes, that Powerslave bp is absolutely insane! The design, the colours, just an amazing piece - if it weren’t for the old Abigail bp, I probably would have gone after it as my new backpatch.

I guess for an unattained item, it would be Emperor In The Nightside Eclipse woven bootleg (4inx4in.)

Cool thread!
Even though this isn’t technically a merch item, one of my absolute biggest holy grails is M.A.D. - Taboo Of The Western World CD.
It seems to be a bitch to find >$200, but I think I can find it.
And I have the tape so I’m stoked about that!
