I think I first heard of Gamma Ray in 1995 with "Land of the Free" - and in 1997, the floodgates opened for the European heavy/power/symphonic metal revival with Rhapsody and HammerFall. This kind of metal was dead here in America then, and I'm telling my friend about these new bands from Europe.
