    • IMG_0085.JPG

damn you you got the priest patch from ebay that i wanted haha

    • IMG_0085.JPG

      Different but cool

I'm with you. I am a Christian but I like Venom, Slayer, Mercyful Fate, etc. I can appreciate the talent, even if I don't agree with the beliefs or lyrical ideas of the band.

    • DSC02018.JPG

I don't have Life of Dreams, but I have Beast on my Back on both vinyl and cd!

    • ebay 011.jpg

...and seriously...Venom is fantastic. Venom pretty much ruled my headphones in 9th grade - I just think this shirt design is a bit of a pandering to theme, is all :D

    • IMG_0085.JPG

LIVE AFTER DEATH! that was easily the first live album (i bought the original double vinyl when it hit the shelves) that i can remember as an influence

    • IMG_0085.JPG

not gay in my eyes...if I saw a current heavy band vocalist rocking this jacket, i would say "right on" and watch the metal flow...

    • DSC01999.JPG

I've tried to close my mind as much as I could manage during this discussion...but unfortunately the sheer power of great metal and crushing riffs and technically proficient thrash mastery has taken over: I simply cannot dismiss any metal bands based on their lyrical content! I tried, really. But that darned musical appreciation kept coming back and setting me straight :) [and my studies in philosophy AND theology, no doubt]

Doesn't seem to be too many Motorhead fans on this site. Weird as they were one of the purveyors of heavy metal, speed metal, punk and thrash. Motorhead rule!

    • DSC01999.JPG

      Indeed.

    • IMG_0085.JPG

      GAY

    • DSC01999.JPG

At some point we're going to have to admit that ANY music of ANY sort that involves lyrics or vocals quite simply sucks.

    • DSC01999.JPG

I wouldn't disagree- just as there is "Christian rock," but generally I feel (from the little I know about them) that they put their lyrics and meanings ahead of their actual music. Just as how black metal bands that put religious hate over their music tend to suck, Christian rock bands that put their themes ahead of their music tend to suck just the same.

    • DSC01999.JPG

You can always go with WIGS! \m/

    • DSC01999.JPG

Now y'all have got me wondering: is it possible for a band of bald/shaved-headed musicians to play Hair Metal? : )

    • DSC01999.JPG

Well I'm always open to reccomendations- and you're correct, I never said anything about those being inferior due to beliefs. I just don't like them. Although I have heard people calling black metal bands and such Satanic Metal, but your point still stands.

    • DSC01999.JPG

OK, fair enough, that's your opinion and you are entitled to it. However, those bands you listed are not musically inferior due to their lyrics or beliefs. You just don't like them. I'd put Robert Gutierrez of Ultimatum or Micheal Phillips of Deliveranc...e/fasedown up against any guitarist as far as musical ability and they would not only stand their ground but in many cases they'd blow away the competition. I'd be curious to know how much of those bands you have actually heard.

    • DSC01999.JPG

Incubus and Believer are pretty cool, but apart from that not much else has done it for me. No offense man, but I don't like Ultimatum much, Mortification, Vengeance Rising, Stryper, Tourniquet... none of those really stood out for me.

Which "Christian" bands do you find musically unimpressive? I can give you a list of some great bands with all sorts of different lyrical themes. I can also give you a list of bands I don't like, both Christian and not.

    • ebay 011.jpg

You're assuming religion is inherently a bad thing. If christianity or whatever religion helps people be at peace, or help somebody be nice to a stranger for a day, then it's not hurting anyone. Most of the people talking shit on religion don't have any clue what they're on about at all- I haven't been to church in a long time but my god, for 11 years I never felt "restricted" or "oppressed"- I'd still swear or drink or do whatever it is that all these active atheists seem to think religious people don't do.

    • DSC01999.JPG

Pretty sure you'll find there's a wikipedia article on christian metal while you're at it. And it's not for an ideological reason in particular that I don't like christian metal, I just find that most christian metal bands quite unimpressive musically.

    • DSC01999.JPG

From wikipedia (not the greatest source when refering to band genres, but not bad either): G...es: Thrash metal Progressive metal Neo-Classical metal Avant-Garde metal I don't see "Christian metal" there.

As always, this new round of Theology "lite" is cute to observe, although folks like David Hume already did all the intellectual heavy lifting 300 years ago on the matter of deity/creation. I do think it's lamentable that in the popular sphere, a whiny, sarcastic documentary effort like 'Religulous' is the best vessel of reference that most atheists can point to, while the far superior 'Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed' contains a great deal more genuine philosophical debate and inquiry.

    • DSC01999.JPG

Man, every one is so scared of Jesus these days : ) It's funny how the tables have turned in the last 20 years or so. When I was a thrash/metal fan in the '80s as a teen, all my classmates were scared of metal imagery and I was (according to teachers) a kid who was suspect of being a Satanist. Nowadays, everybody seems to be scared of anything related to Christiani...church/the Bible --- Christianity is the new Satan! : D

    • DSC01999.JPG

I'm not at all a fan of christian metal, but these guys were pretty damn good.

    • ebay 011.jpg

i see where your coming from.

    • ebay 011.jpg

i get your point and i agree, althougth i dint mean that satan can be the only way to rebelion or freedom,i only stated that i see it as a symbol of that, freedom is whole other concept, but to be free from religion we must kill god. by this i mean not believing ( atheism ).
