direct merchandising shirts as far as I know are not official shirts( I cannot find any info for the company online). No real store would sell these, I only have seen them in mom and pop t-shirt shops and the quality is always shitty, the prints are fine but the t-shirts are paper thin and rip and obtain holes easily (say goodby to them if you wear one in a pit). And they don't print these when the albums come out, you might want to add 5-10 years to the born date. I bought a Pungent Stench shirt by them once and the sleeves fell off when I put it on + 6 inch rips down the sides? I actually just got this SFU shirt for $10 on ebay and looked closer and its DM... At least it will make a nice back patch or something when it falls apart in 6 months.
Direct Merchandise (was) a distributor, not a brand, man. There are no "Direct Merchandise" shirts- only shirts that were distributed by Direct Merch - And much like Blue Grape, they were definitely a legit distributor throughout the 90's.
I have shirts by Direct Merch that are printed on a number of different brands. Some are paper thin from being washed countless times over the years and others (much like this SFU shirt) are printed on some real heavy and durable cotton.
Your luck with your "Direct Merchandise distributed shirt is based completely on the brand of shirt it was printed on, the materials that shirt is made of, and how well it was cared for while you owned it.
I thought they printed and distributed because the print jobs were ok but not the standard of a normal shirt. Usually with less detail/colours. And they had a copyright symbol but never a date? Maybe its because they 'distribute (reprinted) tour shirts 5+ years after the tour. And like I said the ones I've seen are paper thin NEW in the store-though these all have been shitty rock and roll ,and mom and pop stores so they may have just been buying the cheapest shit, who knows. I black out their logo on my shirts.
