Noticed we now have new watermarks with dates and usernames with seemingly random locations. I don't hate it, but I'm curious what brought that on? People stealing images?
That was my guess, because I've seen a huge increase in the frequency of stolen images. Especially on eBay, where "reprint" sellers are using images from here and instagram to promote their listings. A number of my photos from IG have been used for this without my consent.
This is exactly what happened with one of my t-shirts that I posted on here and on IG. A bunch of sellers on eBay used my image of my authentic Dead or Alive t-shirt for their listings of selling reprinted and bootleg copies of the shirt. Never once was I contacted about them using my images. They even found a way to remove the 'TSHIRTSLAYER' watermark at the bottom and also photoshopped the 'Spring Ford' tag out of the picture as well (For reference, the Spring Ford tag on the shirt is important because it's a huge giveaway that the shirt was a vintage from the 80s and therefore an official shirt).
I even had people contacting me via IG asking if I was giving away my shirt and if the listing was made by me since it's the same photo from my accounts. I had to make an announcement on my IG stories to tell everyone that the listing was not made by me and that the person(s) using my images stole it from me just so they can use it to sell their trash bootlegs.
There are too many of these "sellers" and too little oversight from eBay to stop them, it seems. My Filosofem photos from IG have been used for these bootleg/reprint listings by multiple sellers (they could be bots for all I know). This is the image that has been stolen multiple times, among others that I've taken and posted on my IG account.
That's the sad truth. As much as I really want these to stop, every time one of these listings gets taken down, two more come out like a hydra. It's so annoying, but it seems the only way to get them to stop is if people can stop buying their garbage.
I'm actually surprised that the person of this listing didn't even try to hide the watermark on here. It does feel like maybe this could be a bot that randomly targeted your photos to use for this listing. Not sure if I'm right, but it seems like a strong possibility especially compared to the stuff that I've dealt with in the past when it comes to similar situations where my posts got stolen.
I don't care all that much, to be honest. I think eventually eBay will crack down on these bot listings. Hopefully no one is naive enough to actually buy from them. You're absolutely right in your analogy with the hydra... they are not easy to kill but this only highlights a major flaw in eBay's current programming. If Bolt Thrower photos were used this way, you can bet their lawyers would be on eBay like vultures to make sure they're all taken down promptly. But I don't think we've reached that point just yet.
Maybe a solution if the pictures can saved as webphp format. But I know unfortunatelly when they using printscreen button...just this a longer stealing perhaps useful a little bit.
Still gonna put my little name card next to my uploads, but this is a very welcome additionππ scammers and grifters now realise there's money to be made with metal merch, anything that makes their lives more difficult is a good thing
Fully agree! It sucks that people are still getting their images stolen, but if this means that this is going to make the scammers have a harder time to steal our images, then I am all for it!
I should have been doing that all along, re-taking them sounds like a chore. It sucks how scammers and grifters are doing this. I appreciate the new watermark though. I've seen images on here being used in others "collections" as well, and vise versa.
I think I mentioned this happening in another fourm, personally, I'm more pissed at the Ali express and Temu bootlegs. That's the lowest of the low.
It most likely is the thief that has been happening a lot recently.
There's a number of people outside TSS (espesically on eBay) who are stealing images of people's collections on here and using them for their own listings to either sell reprints / bootlegs or to just scam people. I can confirm that I had at least one of my images stolen from either here or on IG and it's being used right now to sell someone's poor quality bootlegs of the same shirt.
I guess since I upload mostly patches, people don't really have a reason to steal my shit. I could see it being necessary if you post custom shit or vintage merch that is easy to bootleg.
Yeah the only time I ever saw someone's photos of patches being stolen from here was when it came to the very sought after vintage stuff (e.g., The official and vintage Bolt Thrower patches from the early 90s. I remember a few years ago someone on eBay stole someone's image of a vintage BT patch because the TSS logo was still on the listing funny enough. And the person on eBay was a completely different user from the original user on TSS. They tried to sell either a bootleg or scam the next buyer of around $300 CAD. Idk if the listing ever sold or was taken down in the end though).
I haven't seen a similar patch situation happen in a few years now. So I'm happy that patch related scams don't seem to be as common anymore. Although it's always better to have more security (watermarks) in the long run just in case.
Honestly that's fine! I sometimes do the same too when it comes to posting my stuff from here over to my IG story page just to show people what I recently got.
I don't think I ever gotten someone from IG to join this site sadly.
Would that actually prevent pictures from getting stolen? Pretty sure you could remove that watermark in 2 seconds with AI, anyway I think its kinda cool we get these watermarks
Maybe not prevent it entirely, but probably help slow down the amount of thief happening. You're right that AI can help remove the watermarks though. With these new watermarks, they seem to appear in random places on the images. So it would probably be harder to remove the watermarks depending on where they appear on the images.
I personally like the new watermarks too since I like how there's a date to when it was uploaded along with the username. Some people on this site have already been doing that physically, but it's nice that everyone gets this automatically.

i'm thinking to lay Steganography in a repeated 8x8 pattern over the image too

It's funny, sometimes I actually just steal my own pics from here and upload them on eBay π
My name is the same on eBay though and sometimes the watermark works kind of like an advertisement that brings potential buyers to TSS lol
