You are absolutely correct, this is their best!
I know this is ten years too late, but the point for the backprint is that they DID play death metal, melodic death metal that is! You have to remember the time period, they could not have claimed to be a black metal band without the proper ideology and lyrics lest they be called posers and shunned! Those were the days! Arguments about True and False and so on endlessly, nowadays anything goes for "black metal" if it has screeching (or even death growls) no matter the lyrical content and beliefs! Not in my days, when I was young.... *rest is omitted* :D
Right, so it was their choice to stick to the death metal definition, it was actually asked about in a few interviews already circa "Stellae Trajectio" (which is as good as "Vittra").
