Look this, looked like something medieval style. Very similar the side of leather clothing. Another great job!

Wont the grommets fall out when the fabric stretches or gets older?

PinkPony's picture

probably xD but it was like the first time i used those things :p i'm not a real pro in diy-projects xp still learning :p

talk to Freyjawulf. she would be able to help you.
In general I'd say you might wanna reinforce that area with a strip of firmer material like thin artificial leather to keep it from tearing.

They will fall out, happened to me before with a skirt. Faux leather doesn't fare too well in the wash though and it can melt if you stick it in a dryer. It might be an idea to put another panel of fabric in the gap so all the strain isn't on the eyelets. You could still shred it if you like the gaps.

thanks for the tips :)

Do you think thick felt would work instead of faux leather then?
how does it wash/dry?

I've never used felt before but could work, you'd want to keep it on the inside though because it doesn't look too nice. If I was doing it myself I'd probably use a mid weight non-stretch denim. It's not hard to come by, just get a cheap pair of mens jeans and hack 'em up.

You could use faux leather if you want, but most kinds that I've come across need to be handwashed in cold water because they're plastic based.

thanks for the tip. denim sounds good if you layer it a few times actually.
do you think it would help if you layered it a few times with the grain at right angles, like plywood?
