Not taking into account my opinions about Slipknot, used to be a huge fan. Nowadays I'm a lukewarm fan at best.
But I really loathe Hot Topic or any other store that tries to make a subculture into "the next big thing"
Always jumping on the "haters gonna hate" proclaim to avoid realizing this band is totally worthless and everyone who considers himself a fan is partially or entirely due to their "schocking imagery". Empty music...
Oh come on. That's like saying people are only into bands like Bathory and Mercyful Fate because they wore inverted crosses. While I agree that there are people that are just into them to rebel against their parents and whatnot. And I will be the first to admit that they have gone worse over the years. But claiming that people only like them for their "schocking imagery" is a pretty bold statement.
I for example do still Consider Slipknot and Iowa to be great albums. Sure thay have their fair share of typical "Fuck this, fuck that" moments, that nobody can deny. But then we have great tracks like Prosthetics, Scissors, Iowa, Gently, Tattered and Torn and so on. Songs witch just have a very eerie and otherwordly feel to them. Sadly with the Vol 3 album that side of them seems to be lost.
Well, let's go step by step: On the first hand, Mercyful fate and Bathory are two of the most respected bands in metal's underground scene and they started their careers in the beginning of the eighties, many of us weren't even "programmed" back then. The eighties were somehow special, there were very few "casual" bands, and almost everything was done from the heart, no "fashion bands" outstanding among the metal scene. Back when I was 16, I hardly tried to get into their stuff (Slipknot, Iowa, Vol.3), but hell If I was able to... Regardless of your own musical taste, which I of course respect and wouldn't ever fight about, the Slipknot "masses" were a bunch of mallcore kids who knew nothing at all concerning the metal world, its origins and its definition as a genre, and not precisely because they were rookies on this, but just because they didn't give a shit about whatever metal was/is. That's a good example regarding the difference between music for passion and music for fashion, IMO.
i didn't know how they looked back when i liked them, some friends listened to them so i allways heard them, but when i discovered the costumes i was like what the fuck are they doing.
dont like that stuff in black metal with the corpsepaint and huge spikes and shit too.
you can't like every music, doesnt mean everything you don't like is worthless.
Black metal has been on earth for the last 30 years. Nu-metal and hip-hopized children who try getting into mainstream metal stuff are a fashion. But of course to each one is own. I was just pointing out something I HONESTLY think it's obvious.
So, as you've rightly said, I was just giving my opinion regarding the Slipknot issue ;)
Man though I like theyre music (got theyre whole discography, osn 3 shirts and some patches and saw them live a couple of times) saying you got an SLIPKNOT patch at HOT TOPIC on this site seems like just trying to provoke on here. Just seems so. No offense man.
I understand why people hate slipknot. They could do the type of music they do with 4-5 members instead of 8 (was 9, Rest In Peace Paul Gray or Grey). The reason I like them is 1. their music is heavy and some not. 2. I'm an artist, and i like their masks. 3. Its not bad music or metal. I understand people has their likes and dislikes about whats metal or not. But mainly why don't people like slipknot? Also Hot Topic is a clothing store, I buy some of my t-shirts and i seen this patch, along with my slayer patch, and my black and white american flag (IDK what it means.
Sorry if i offended anyone when i posted my last comment, i was just wondering about those questions. That was when i was in the "slipknot phase" but now i listen to them probally once a month, also its hard for me to get alot of shirts off-line and if i see a shirt i like in a store like hot topic, i'm getting it just because of the band and conveniency. So again sorry if i offended anyone and i apologize for anything spelled incorrecty or any grammar errors.
bro this is fukken kvlt as fvck slipknot are my favourit black metal band ever, i think burzum covered them during one of theyre gigs, keep it tr00 \m/
I like Slipknot. If you hate them, cool, but judging someone for liking them is just childish. Grow up.
As for Hot Topic, it's a store. They sell what people buy. I buy shirts there because they have them and they're cheap, and I'm thinking of buying a denim vest there as well. Who gives a shit?
