Metal My custom hand built guitar

Metal Panther 54
Sun, 01/06/2014 - 18:01

This is the guitar I built during my 2nd semester in college. Its part of the STEM research program teaching students the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics within an electric guitar. It took about five months to build (due to snow delays and only meeting 2 to 3 times a week) but we go through a lot of the processes that it takes to make a playable guitar. The body and the neck were pre-cut for us, and I choose an SG style body, and customized the hell out of it. But I did all of the sculpting, sanding, put in the fret dots and fret wire, and did all of the wiring within the body to make it playable. I tried to make the headstock look like a B.C. Rich Warlock and spray painted it to look like stone and I gave it the nickname "Gargoyle". Sorry for the long description but if you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

So far, pretty well. Had a electronics issue but I fixed it real quick, a grounded wire came un-soldered. With the amps and pedal I have, pretty kick ass but i'm going 2 try getting a new amp cause I have a small practice amp and one that idk what type it is. But i'm happy with the overall sound, two dual hum bucker pickups and a 3 way switch is what's on it.

That's cool that you built it yourself, looks nice!

Thanks, well the bodies and necks were pre-cut for us on some sort of router, but we had the choice of an in-line six or a split headstock. I chose an inline six because I had more wood I could do a design on. But it shows how much work and effort in it.

Thanks, I even customized the neck plate but it has my actual name on it so I may have to cover it up.

Well they didn't technically make us take the course but if your school offered a class to build a guitar, who wouldn't take this class. During the class, a guy made a lefty for his daughter and a guy who took the course previously, made a bass that looks nice. I met alot of cool people and I would gladly take the class again.

  • In the metal world, Dr*gs were used a lot. Maybe they had random ideas on dr*g and decided to do it.
  • Love em too never understood the fascination with private parts though. Last time I saw them live was in 91 .
