Best way to attach patches to vest?

Kommando of Dawn

Hey,

What would be the best way to attach the patches on my denim jacket? Hand sewing, sewing with a machine or something like Fabric Glue?
I'm still pretty new to this stuff so I would really appreciate to get some answers!

to me the best way is hand sewing.

SpaceLord's picture

For the most people, hand sewing is the truest way ;)
For me too!! ;)

Sticky tape. Or staples.

Nater90's picture

What about duct tape?

llama_operation's picture

Duct tape takes out the kvlt factor of sticky tape, dont listen to nater slamputated

Nater90's picture

Hahahah, Fuck ya then, Gonna punch holes and use cable ties.

Stronthor's picture

Haha shit dude, now I'm seriously contemplating doing that with at least one patch on my vest...

Nater90's picture

Do it!!!!

Make sure they're four different colours for the Trve Kvlt factor.

Hand sewing. A machine would prob be most secure, but takes the fun out of it!!!

Nater90's picture

Glue and spike/stud the fuckers!!! While your eating a kebab.

vomitoxic's picture

Hand sewing all the way for me.

Naaien die handel :-P

Sew them on by hand. Takes a VERY long time but you'll feel so much more proud of yourself.

Acheron's picture

1) Put patches in desired locations
2) Piss on vest
3) Let it sit in the sun for most of the morning

Kind of sucks because you can only do one side at a time.

Hand sewing is what I've found to be the most meaningful method. But sewing machine is probably better if you aren't very good at sewing.

Chainbreaker's picture

1. Eat spicy taco
2. Use gas station lavatory
3. Put your output on the backside of your patches and stick them to your jacket
4. Sew the patches on your jacket by hand. It will give you a warm and fuzy feeling inside when you see the result.

Steps 1 to 3 may be skipped

Nater90's picture

Hahahaha, Ripper.

Kommando of Dawn's picture

I actually did read everything haha. Should reply more next time...

You have a jacket with patches on your profile pic, how did you do those?

Kommando of Dawn's picture

I used a sewing machine for these

VoodooChild's picture

did that work for you?

Kommando of Dawn's picture

It did for these, but when I do the back it might be harder.

VoodooChild's picture

When the backpatch only has straight lines a sewing machine works fine, I did it by hand and I can tell you, it took looooong. It is satisfying when it's done and personally I find sewing not something I hate to do or anything, even almost meditating. But if you don't like it or don't have the time sewing machine is great for BP. When it hasn't have straight borders (like a shaped logo BP) I wouldn't use a sewing machine.

I always stay clear from glue.

Bayernpirat's picture

try to get the vest magnetic so Metal will adhere on it

Megatron1777's picture

+1

frankie530's picture

Sewing machine, patches are most secure that way

gizter's picture

i disagree.

Bayernpirat's picture

sewing machine is the best way

gizter's picture

i really hate the look it gives when you sew along the borders, many hand sewers also do that, but with sewing machine thats the only option. and since then the borders still stick out a little its easier for stuff to catch underneat it and rip

frankie530's picture

Just have to be careful when you do it and if you're removing patches. It's the best way for me, might not be for others, as I hate hand sewing them on as they are not as secure as they would be with a machine

Megatron1777's picture

Fuck fabric glue, that will ruin it it the long run. I hand sew, don't really like sewing machines, don't know how to use one either haha. Even if I did though I would still hand sew all my patches. Also if you see by hand DON'T make straight sewing lines along the border so, don't want the thread to stay on the patch area the whole time, way easy to tear off or some loose. When sewing you should have the thread go back and forth from the patch to the outer area if that makes any sense, think of making stripes all along the border with thread. If you look at some of the photos of my vest you might be able to see what I mean hahaha

Kommando of Dawn's picture

Thanks for this advice dude!

gizter's picture

exactly what you said. i hate when people sew along the border instead of across it. like i stated above already.
