I didn't really do anything with my hair when I was growing it out, and it ended up just being a mop-top kind of look (before it finally grew long enough that I could part it in the middle without it looking nerdy). Not the best look in the world, but I suppose it could've been worse.
Maybe it's just me. I seem to be a bit older than most here who seem to have this problem. I've been out of high-school for a good 8 years now, and back then kids were much more interested in nu-metal than emo (in my area, at least).
