Ondskapt - Arisen From The Ashes

Official album TS. Ondskapt is easily one of my top 10 absolute favorite bands. They manage to create a vicious, rotten, cavernous atmosphere. If music had smell, Ondskapt would definitely smell like carrion. Orthodox black metal in it's most pure state.

Draco Sit Mihi Dux has the darkest atmosphere of their albums. Dödens evangelium is their most widely regarded album, and it must be because it balances that initial darkness with a developed sense of catchiness and better structured songs, although the latter half of the album is weak compared to the initial half. Arisen From The Ashes is the less regarded by the orthodox black metal purists, because it is super catchy overall and has less dark atmosphere than the others. So they followed a descending curve for darkness and an ascending curve for catchiness, if we would put it in a graph. I love all 3 albums, but because I love when good melodies stick in my head, the one I listen to most is Arisen From the Ashes. In this album every song is a well done song. I hope there'll be a new album soon.
