This white one-off from the Downward Spiral era doesn't particularly fit the torture & abrasion theme of the album, or even any previous albums for that matter. The drawn Monkey here is featured in a prominently less religious fashion than the one in the Closer video, and while the eight-sided star may be a vague allusion to Halo Eight, that too seems a mighty stretch. In fact, where the graphics, save for the large classic logo on the rear, rarely resurfaced (though the star would appear on the Eraser shirt and the serif logo would later appear on 1997's Closure packaging), it's likely that Trent wanted something that intentionally deviated from the group's other merchandise which typically featured graphics derived or taken directly from their respective albums. The standard J. Artist Management text of time is present, albeit in a different font than usual. Rare as the shirt is, variations in ink color exist, including green and maroon in lieu of black and red (mainly international).
Ah, my man, it's always good to hear from you! Yeah, I don't remember this being one of their more celebrated designs necessarily, but a few kids in my school had it. It's grown on me a lot!
Oh, my friend, I've got too many of those regrets to count - ones that I could tell you exactly when and where I looked at them on the wall and left them. I'll keep an eye out for you!

My favorite nin shirt design. Still trying to hunt one down. Kicking myself for not picking one up in a mall record store 25 years ago!
