why

Why what?

yellow border, doesn’t match with anything here

NatassjaInEternalSleep's picture

If I need to explain why -
It will be mirroring my yellow border Entombed coffin patch on the jacket I am sewing

I do things how I want, not how it's socially acceptable.

Never seen it with the yellow border, very Swedish hahaha. Looks neat to me. I've got one of the rare black borders that Morbideath made

You have never seen it yellow, because it was white and I dyed it yellow to match the Entombed coffin.

It's quite nice you scored that version of the 'December Moon' coffin patch.

I am currently sewing a purple jean jacket tribute to deceased Swedish musicians (Dead, Petrov, Quorthon, Nödtveidt).
It will include flowers and embroidery.
*Purple Lilies - they symbolise transience and the flower’s pure look expresses emotions in times of loss and mourning.
*Myosotis or 'forget-me-not', which is blue and yellow- they represent a promise that you will always remember someone and will keep them in your thoughts.
Then there is also the fictional Sundrop flower from the Rapunzel story (which the underlying basis of the jacket).

There also be more hidden symbolism as I progress with the sewing.

I am sure there will people who will roll their eyes, but I stopped caring long ago. I do as I like, and like to be creative and make projects with a deeper meaning and hidden symbolism, opposed to just something thrown together for the latest social media trends.

You are right on, the yellow and blue represent the Swedish flag! ;)

Very good work. I wonder how you did that, it doesn't look like the edge was sewn over again with yellow thread.

No, it's not resewn. It's fabric dye. Yellow over original white. It usually needs a few coats for a deeper color.

It's amazing how easy it is to change border colors with a color wheel and dye, except black. I haven't tried it yet, but think bleaching the borders would be the first step.
Always test a small amount of color on the back first to see if you like the results.

Did you use a pen for this? I've done that a few times, but I always find it problematic that the color sometimes goes where it's not supposed to. On some of my patches on my HM vest, I sewed over the original edges with glitter thread, because it would not have worked with dye.

It is like a double sided pen, one side with a finer edge for details.

Markers and sharpies aren't good, they can spill into the patch and are not waterproof.

It must be a specific dye pen for fabric. There are a few different kinds, some must be ironed and washed for the ink to set. If you research them, you can read exactly how they work.
The ones I have never spilled. The brand name is Staedtler. The color can be washed up to 60 degrees. A bit expensive, but worth it.

As to make glitter borders, I have done that without thread as well. You can take glitter glue, use a very fine brush and put a very thin layer over the edges, reapply as needed, but remember the borders will become hard as it dries, so dry before you reapply.
This requires a very steady hand not to spill into the patch.

I have also used metallic paint pens. There are lots of interesting things out there to experiment with, the main thing is to make sure they are for fabric and will tolerate the conditions they will endure, like moisture and heat, for example.

Yes, I know these pens and I have also worked with them. Thanks for your advice.

Also with glitter glue I have already improved some patches, so for example the big red Sabbat backshape on my Main vest and the golden Burzum logo shape I have sewn over the DSEV Backaptch on my Burzum Tribute vest. This looks really good with the right light incidence, unfortunately it is difficult to see in the photos.

I looked at your vests, wow, it's quite impressive work! Photos never bring out the real quality.

It's always good to see people are still creative with patch works.
I have a ton of metallic thread. I am thinking of trying your glitter border sewing method with my fall best project on black on my black borders. ;)
