Well, Moorcock is one of the bigger names in fantasy literature, being notably famous for his own special breed of "dark fantasy". You should give a go at Elric saga to begin with if you like the genre.
As said above, the guy with white hair is this Elric. And if I remember right, these novels are a part of a huge Eternal Champion, where the main characters shares the same soul. Give it a try.
Haaaa, Urish's bane. Always had a soft spot for Michael Whelan, even if he's not my favourite fantasy illustrator. Retrospectively, I still find it amazing that he authorized Cirith Ungol to use several of his artworks whereas he was already a big name in the edition world.
Yeah, I checked it out following my comment, and figured out he's also the artist behind Meat Loaf's Bat Out Of Hell artwork and some of the early Sepultura albums' covers, among many others... Gosh, I hadn't made the connection. Amazing.
Never heard of Cirith Ungol? All their cover arts were originally used as covers for fantasy novels with Elric of Melnibone, painted by the same same guy- Michael Whelan.
The music itself is proto-doom metal, but this album here is more faster than, for example, King of the Dead. Lyrics are mostly about fantasy and sci-fi themes with a lot references to classic books.
This novel-album connection is absolutely delightful, really! Makes sense if their name is a reference to the place in the Tolkien legendarium.
And I know the name but I've never listened to the music apart from a song or two.
Which album would be a good place to start? :-)
That's awesome... how many more books are there with album artwork ??? He probably will have used some Hawkwind related artwork too i guess.... reminds me i have the Michael Moorcock & Deep Fix- New worlds fair lp somewhere; got it signed by Snowy White... he had to laugh when i showed it to him...

Don't really remember all these names, but I've seen some arts and Whelan is truely skilled with paints, he has a website somewhere, amazing stuff.

Wow, this is cool!
I've never listened to this album; does it have anything to do with the book, cover art aside?

If I'd had a chance I would ask Wheelan to sign some of my Cirith Ungol records, that would be interesting.

Great idea! Would be happy to do the same with Rodney Matthews and my Magnum LPs!
