How to put studs on my battlejacket

Hey guys
I have a new battlejacket. I'd like to put 12x12mm studs around my backpatch, but I have not added the other patches by now, and the studs I ordered didn't arrive yet, so I wanted to ask if I should leave space between the patches to add the studs afterwards, so it's easier to get them through the fabric, or can i add the studs on the patches or is it difficult to get through all this fabric? thanks

should not be a problem with fabric, so dont worry about studding over the patches.
it depends on how close and clean you want it to look as well.
just make sure you use like needlenose pliers and secure the back prongs down well, but without stretching and ripping the fabric.
if it is a leather battle jacket i would recommend using a small woodworking awl to make small dot like holes 12cm apart (or whatever dimension your stud is)

i woulnt put the studs through the patches cause it will ruin them if you ever replace them. but you should allways poke holes through the jacket where the pointy ends go in, you can do it without, but it will save you a lot of pain you you just pre poke the holes with a dart or something.
press the stud down where you want it so it leaves a lill mark, poke through the fabric with a dart, put the stud through and bend it, and keep doing that untill youre finished.

I pushed through with my thumb, bent with needlenose and kept going. It works well with denim and regular fabric, for leather do what either of the dudes above said, poke a set of holes and push through, it's easier and less likely to fuck up. And yes leave space so you can just go through fabric, it's easier to do and your patches won't get fucked up.

I've put studs through patches before, it's not difficult. Even if you decide you want to add more patches later, it's simple enough to remove and replace them. Yes it will damage the patches, but they're yours and you can do what you want with them. If the patches are thick you may need something to poke holes in them, you can buy special tools but a pair of embroidery scissors from any craft shop will do the job.
