Something interesting that came in mind is weight lifting for metalheads...
Most metalheads in my area are twigs or really out of shape.
I've been working out for a little over a year and got some progress.
Went from 135 pounds to 167.
I've also noticed that when metalheads are buff, people give them more respect...(me/2 friends experienced)
We metalheads usually get made fun of when we're young. (EX: my brother when he was in 6-8 grade)
Weightlifting is also a fun activity when you're bored:P
Some buff metalheads are Peter Steele, Chuck Schuldiner (kinda), and Kevin Frasard(superrrr buff)
I'm so bored, haha

haha have you seen Bobby Blitz when he takes his shirt off on stage? even at his old age that guy is in good shape!

That's fine if you're buff. But I hate when there's people at shows that think they have presidency to be an ass hole in the pit and elsewhere because they weigh 250 lbs. Pits are for having fun, not getting hurt.
There, my mini-rant.

John Petrucci and Zakk Wylde.
I've been into working out as of a few months ago, the thing with being an ectomorph is that I gotta eat a lot more in addition to the workout to see some form of gain.
hmm... never heard that term.
i'm not it.
but pretty much everyone has to eat more and workout more to see weight gain.
lak89 on
Well most of us can be classified into three distinct body types, so different workout programs work for different people. This should give you more insight. I'm a classic ectomorph.
http://www.muscleandstrength.com/articles/body-types-ectomorph-mesomorph...
yep, i wikied it. i'm definitely an endomorph. my gut tells me that. ;)
i did half an hour of cardio yesterday, so hopefully that does something. i'll keep it up!
i posted a topic on this once. i've been working out for about 4 months now. am currently at 82kg, up from 75. time to cut, so i've been upping my cardio intake. on the bright side, i've been setting personal records. 27.5 a side for the chest press, and 80 for the squat. that's 100%bw for a 1rm.
my goals are 45 a side for the chest press, 200 for the squat and 90 for the deadlift. its been hard to work on the deadlift since i have previous back injuries (fuck the army), but i'm working slowly and carefully around it.
what are your routines like, guys?
lak89 on
If you've been seeing gains after just 4 months then I'm clearly not pushing myself enough, either that or I'm not eating enough.
I go to the gym 3-4 times a week. each time i focus on a single major lift, and the minor muscles that assist it.
what i do is i try to hit 200g of protein a day.
3 times a day i drink a shake made of 500ml of skim milk, 2 tbsp of peanut butter and 2 bananas.
recently ive been cutting, so i'm dropping the bananas.
but no matter what, if you wanna grow bigger you gotta eat more and work harder.
lak89 on
Ah that explains it, I'm definitely not doing/eating enough. Unfortunately with full time work and part time studying I'm lucky if I get to do it 2 times a week. Looks like I'll have to put my buffing up goals on hold for now.
edit.
i'm dropping peanut butter, not bananas.
at least i can find a peanut butter much lower in fat.

200 for the Squat and 90 for the deadlift is a kinda strange goal, even if you've had back injuries.
Deadlifting's comparatively easy, I started training at 110 for 4 reps and moved up to 150 for 1 a few months later. I know you'll want to go easy with it if you've had injuries but you'll need a fucking strong back to squat 200, so I'd probably raise your dl goal or lower your squat goal.
My goals are 100kg for the bench (at least a double) and 200 for the deadlift. I'd be happy with 180 on the squat though getting 200 would be good.
i put down 90 as a goal because i've never really deadlifted before, tbh.
i didnt know what to put as a goal, so i put it on the safe side first. because its 100% of my target weight.
i've had more experience with the squat. i'm now squat a pb of 80. i'm aiming for at least 150-200% my target weight, hence 200. i understand that you need a strong core to up the squat. i started feeling it when i went for 80, so i've added in good mornings to my routine.
what should i aim for for the deadlift, then. given that my target weight is 90?
i didnt know what to work for or from, so i just started at 30 today and worked my way up to 50. i know i can go much more though.
my back injury is degenerative disc disease of L5S1, if it helps. i'm not gonna let it stop me. i'll work around it and manage it and be careful, but i fully believe i can rise above it.
oh yeah, and if anyone likes exercise, look up this guy called jim wendler. metalhead and powerlifter. really good at writing motivational articles as well.

Ah, I said biggest, but I meant muscular. But yes, they probably WEIGH more than this guy.
I've heard of Mammoth before somewhere.
"It's reported that to play in Mammoth, one must weight at least 100kg." Haha, interesting.

James Hetfield isn't too skinny either.

Ah yes you are right about that. Chris Broderick has tanked up recently as well.
