This vest started with me attempting to hand sew some home made canvas patches (to no avail) all in time for a Dropkick show in 2017. It was a far cry from what I wanted. And so when Dropkick returned in 2019, I decided to pull out all the stops and throw whatever needlework I could into it. The result was this vest that I honestly wish I had more room to add to. My family actually immigrated through Boston from Scotland and not Ireland (hence the Saltair patch). But what can I say, if there where more Scottish punk bands, I would have filled this vest with thistles instead of clovers. Go Pats/Sox/Bruins/Celtics!!!

Thank you I was concerned that the greens wouldn't mesh when I first started but it seemed to come together quite well

It for sure did!

This is so fucking sick. Curious about the Latter Day Saint patch - are you LDS or is that something else?
kiltman801 on
Yessir, I"m so gosh darn mother fetching mormon, it hurts
Thane on
Haha right on at least you own it. I'm an ex-mormon as of a little while ago lol

Sorry to read you got a lot of hate growing up. I have a mohawk, a messy beard, wear kilts and combat boots to church and they don’t seem to mind. Hell, they put me in charge of primary alittle while back. Just goes to show there are evil people out there no matter how good they themselves think they are.

I definitely agree. I didn't leave because of the judgement haha I left because of finding out the truth about a lot of church history
kiltman801 on
Hahaha That would do it

I have to ask too - where did you get the bagpiping skeleton?
kiltman801 on
I cut it out of a Dropkick Shirt, put fabric backing behind it, and sewed it on

Very cool. Not gonna lie definitely jealous of this vest it's absolutely amazing.

Yeah I was trying to find a good “Celtic“ punk vest but most Celtic punk bands wear shirts and ties. Figured I’d just have to make one myself instead Hahaha

Well it turned out pretty perfect! \m/

This is radical hahaha absolutely love it mate. Especially the loud pipes save lives juxtaposition. Can't believe you mispelled the Pogues though x_x hahahah. If you like this type of music you gotta check out the band Mudmen from Canada! I think you'll dig 'em.
kiltman801 on
I’ll check them out. Good eye on that Pogues patch. I traded for it at a Young Dubliners concert and didn’t notice till I got home hahaha. If you fine a correct one, let me know.
bad_american1992 on
I think the mispelling fits better with Shane MacGowan's persona hahaha. That's a great story though, I wish there were some official Pogues patches out there. If you need some more Scottish music in your life I suggest checking out Oi Polloi (probably the only punk bands that sings in Gaelic) and Dick Gaughan (folk/trad, not punk, but one of the finest voices of all time).
kiltman801 on
I appreciate it, thank you. I’ll look them up

Not alot of people know big country underrated in my opinion.
kiltman801 on
Agreed! They’re an excellent example of great experimental distortion in a guitar. I’ve also never seen a band more intuned with one another like they were.

I so love this. Do you mind if I steal the idea of it? When going to Celtic events with my kilt, I'd always wear a collared shirt but keep the shirt-tail out covered in patches. BTW - I'm trying to make a Pogues patch, if successful, I'll pass the info on, it wouldn't be embroidered though, I'm not that skilled.
kiltman801 on
HELL YEAH DUDE! I want to see a thousand Irish punk rock vest! Just make sure to post it here when you’re done and let me know
kevinmarion on
Did you die your vest beforehand, or did you find one very black? Most I found are charcoalish in color.
Got a bunch of patches but trying to keep it stylish like yours.
kiltman801 on
I didn’t dye it at all. I bought a black denim motorcycle vest on eBay that I can use to conceal carry my glock. Nothing particularly special about it. I just think when I took the picture, my phone autofiltered the green which darkened the black.
