Great band!
Ulven on
My favorite black metal band from UK. Sadly disbanded.
Into Glory Ride on
Same here i think! Damn, i did not know that, that can't be too long ago.... Goddamn, this is really pulling me down now...
Ulven on
The sad news came about three months ago.
Into Glory Ride on
What a sad news.... For me they really were one of the best and most original (in a good way!) Bands of the scene, music- and lyric-wise. Also one of the few groups with a "pagan" theme, You could take serious at all, good texts about traditions, values and Preserving Culture.
Now it will get even harder to obtain a Shirt, since their Site is down...
And i have to add: It took me really long to get into the music, i think i had to hear "Curse" about 10 times, but after it made "click" and since then the album is still growing and growning...
Ulven on
You are abolutely right.
They were authentic in music/lyrics way, which is hard to find these days.
Clad I obtained the both albums vinyl presses. But still want that Loss shirt so bad.
Into Glory Ride on
Authentic is the right word. They were passionate in what they doing. Ah well, we still have Winterfylleth and Ancestors Blood for example, but at least WF are nowhere as good as WT in my opinion. AB are on the same level for me though.
Got them too. Loss could be blue vinyl even, but i'm not sure.
Ulven on
Agree that Winterfylleth isnt as good as Wodensthrone. I think they have music in shape, but lack for me atleast the authentic feel that comes from music, lyrics and overall feeling.
And Ancestors Blood is for me easily best black metal band for the same reason, for their authentic overall feeling.
Into Glory Ride on
Cheers for that! You can be really proud that they are Your fellow Countrymen.

You guys have to check out Ahamkara. It's basically the solo project of Wodensthrone's keyboardist. Someone else did vocals, and sadly he passed away in October. Michael is carrying on with the band's archived material himself.

I remember Ahamkara being ok, nothing more, perhaps i will listen to it again. But all in all there is quite a huge amount of these so called "Atmospheric BM" Bands (or even worse "Cascadian Black Metal"....) that are not more than mediocre in my opinion. Another reason why the passing of Wodensthrones is so sad. They really stood out the masses.
Ulven on
Have been listening Ahamkara from the start and it is ok, but have to agree with IntoGloryRide that those kind of bands are popping out huge amounts and cant be compared by any means glory of Wodensthrone.

I think considering the variance in the real drumming and at times what sounds like fretless bass playing, all instruments being played by one musician really satisfies me. There's really oceanic Alcest sounding clean parts, but with more complex chords than Alcest. The last track is really worth skipping to for the second half. The first five minutes or so doesn't sound too unique, but the clean section and that grand opus at the end... It sounds like pure spirit, which is a vibe I get a lot from Wodensthrone.

Yeah, amazing band! Not so great Shirt though in my opinion. Still searching for a decent one.
Ulven on
It sure is!
And yeah, it is not the greatest design. I have old Odin zipper from them also.
But I missed the Loss artwork shirt which is one of the greatest artwork IMO.
