It's an idea that's still under development, but generally stems from my interest in the way that battle-jackets communicate, both as a self-contained system and at the level of individual signs (i.e. patches). Some questions I'm interested to answer: how does personalization/customization affect the construction and presentation of a jacket and the layout of its patches?; how does the source of content (i.e. whether hand-made or commercially manufactured) affect its placement or perception?; how does content and design vary, depending on subgenre/s represented?; are there cultural differences in jacket design particular to nationality or language? A battle-jacket is both a personal "document" and a public one, and serves both as uniform and a CV of sorts; which is to say that I find its binary nature very interesting, as it contributes to discourse both private and public.

That's actually very interesting.
I just finished my Honours thesis today. FINALLY.
What level is this for? Masters?
Congratulations! You must be relieved! :D
Technically my research isn't for any specific level as I'm undertaking the project independently (albeit with academic guidance.) I did three years of a B.A. in Comm then quit out of disgust with academic bureaucracy. In part this project will be my way of informally completing that degree for my own satisfaction. \m/

I would SERIOUSLY advise you to write it to the same standard as would be expected of a Honours or Masters thesis. That way you do have some experience with that.
Also try and get it published in an academic journal if possible.
communications theory?
please elaborate. I just wrote my Honours thesis in the field of humanities and cultural communications.

Yep, that's the plan! :)
You dont happen to be working in academia do you?
Welt-esser on
Nope! This project would progress more quickly if I did, but I'm happy with the more relaxed pace.
Nah its not that. I was hoping to ask questions about academia as a career lol.

Can't really help you there, but I'm curious to know what you're interested to do, in terms of an academic career. PM me?
