Type O Negative - 'Slow, Deep And Hard' Remaster CD
Remastered in 2009 by George Marino at Sterling Sound, NYC this out-of-print edition of Type O Negative's 1991 debut is, in my opinion, a huge sonic improvement over the original version.
The original release (which is still in print) was recorded by the band as a demo and it always sounded as such.
Once the band was signed,, Roadrunner Records decided to release the demo as their debut album, against the band's wishes.
In 2009, Peter Steele worked closely with legendary remastering sound engineer George Marino to improve the sonic experience by remastering this legendary album.
The result is a much thicker & dynamically balanced album.
Peter took the chance to fix the album artwork to match what he originally planned - correcting the shade of green to PMS-360, improving the sharpness of the image, & adjusting the typography to allow more of the image to be visible & to match the rest of Type O Negative's catalog.
I've included a shot of the original (then Roadracer Records), 1991 CD cover art (3rd pic below) for comparison.
This version was issued in a cardboard slipcase, included expanded liner notes w/ unreleased photos, & also included a newly remastered version of "Hey Pete (Pete's Ego Trip Version)" as a bonus track.
Even the remastered, bonus track crushes the original version found on 'The Least Worst Of' compilation released in 2000.
Strangely, Roadrunner Records no longer prints this fantastic remaster but still issues the sonically inferior, original version - making this 2009 re-release CD highly sought-after.
