Finally I've got one of my alltime favourite albums on LP!!!
It's a reissue though but I'm still filled with joy.
Dust (released in '71) and Hard Attack ('72) with beautiful coverart done by the mighty Frank Frazetta (R.I.P.)!

Yes! One of my favourites too, the whole Hard Attack is just a solid masterpiece w/o any weak songs.

Oh man, I've listened to Hard Attack over a million times already and I'll never grow tired of it. Masterpiece is the most appropriate word for it. It's an asbolute gem!

The funniest thing is that I always thought that the drummer of Ramones couldn't play a shit, but this record proved me otherwise. I cannot even choose my favourite song from this album, since every song is just kicking right in the ass without any questions.

Hahaha, Bell's period in Dust was like the highlight of his career. I have Hard Attack on my mp3 and I brought it to Muskelrock, along with speakers, me and my friend Tessa were singing along to Pull Away/So Many Times and Suicide over and over and over again. So I guess you can say we like those two the best since it has a bit of sentimental value for us but to be honest we really can't choose either!

I think I could say that either Pull Away/So Many Times or Walk In The Soft Rain are my favourites right now, absolutely impossible to choose an absolute favourite of all time. They also have sentimental values for me. I've been actually walking in the soft rain and listening to the very same song, haha. It's just really beautiful record anyways, way too beautiful to be honest. And yet the whole album sounds so heavy you know.. I was at movie theater watching Tenebre maybe 6hours ago. Anyways before the Movie, Claudio Simonetti had a speech and after that was audiences questions, too bad they ran out of time, I would actually asked what does he think about Dust, since I'm almost 110% sure that he knows the band, because he named his main influences as ELP and Gentle Giant, so that's where I base my proof that he must know Dust, haha.

Exactly, Dust is like the best of both worlds. You've got the heavier parts on one hand and on the other there's this really beautiful instrumental and lyrical atmosphere. Like in Walk in the Soft Rain, as you've already pointed out. I can compare them a bit to Budgie, or at least they remind me of Budgie. Also early 70s heavy sounds but yet so beautiful and profound when you take a closer look.
Wooow, they played Tenebre again in a movie theater? And you encountered Simonetti twice in a month, you're on a roll. Well yeah, now that you mention it, he should know them, too bad you weren't able to ask him.
Oh man, Emerson Lake and Palmer, I've been hooked on Tarkus since like forever!

Yeah, they are actually a little bit similiar to Budgie to be honest, but I still tend to find Dust to be in a totally another division compared to Budgie. I mean Budgie is great, but Dust is KILLER. I like the way Dust has this facepunching stodge attitude, but as you mentioned yet this beautiful and profound way to express things. I mean the violins in Thusly Spoken are really graceful. I might not normally enjoy violins in these typical "drum, guitar, bass" -type of bands, but in their case it's just unbelievable.
Yeah, we have this movie theater in Helsinki called Orion, which tends only to play classic and old movies. There were Tromamovies celebration week a while ago, they played Toxic Avengers and other troma-classics for one whole week If I remember correctly!?
ELP is the way to go :) I guess, you are familiar with Camel? They are absolutely mindblowing too.
E: Nevermind the Camel comment, I checked your profile and you had listed their Mirage as one of your favourites, haha.

Agreed, I can't say which of the two is better since they both are great in what they do/did. But I personally prefer Dust just a bit more. They sound more primitive but yet so developped for their time. Facepunching stodge attitude, I like that. And indeed, those violins and piano in Thusly Spoken are really lovely. Normally it's not my cup of tea either but Dust can pull it off!
Shit, we really need a movie theater like that over here. Old horror movies are so little represented in film festivals and theaters. Yet there's so much demand. Sounds like paradise in Helsinki. The Toxic Avenger movies are so rad!
Haha, well yeah, Camel is a classic. They played in Belgium a few months ago, I was sooo blown away by their performance. Recently saw Yes as well. They played Close to the Edge, Going For The One and The Yes Album in full, was a very breathtaking show.
