Exciter/ Heavy Metal Maniac/ lp/ 1983/ (autographed) & 2008 repress/ (splatter vinyl) I also uploaded my ticket stub, which is from the only time I ever saw Exciter. I ended up missing them the next year with Motorhead and Mercyful Fate because I lagged on buying on a ticket! (don't even comment on that one) A friend of mine stood outside the venue with his ear pressed up against the bricks trying to listen to the show! Concerning the show that I saw that evening, it's memorable for two particular reasons; mainly because Exciter were absolutely amazing! The second reason is because the opening band were beyond awful. Actually, awful would've been an upgrade! They were abysmal! I can't recall the music but I remember everyone around me groaning, throwing things and yelling obscenities! People were approaching the stage specifically to scream out that time worn phrase, over and over again, "you suck!" It suddenly became all too much for a friend of mine. He was so enraged that he grabbed a chair, planted it in front of center stage, stood upon it and thrust his middle finger out right in front of the singer's face! Here is this kid, with his 15 or 16 year old bravado, defiantly holding his middle finger up for all to see while standing on a chair! He's also shaking because he's so pissed at how terrible this band is! The entire club was roaring with laughter as were my friends and I. I looked up at the singer and he just rolled his eyes, grimaced and continued singing. All the while with a finger in his face! I think that pose was held for close to five minutes but most definitely a couple of minutes before my friend, disgustedly, stepped down and stormed away. That band, however, may have been on stage for a half an hour. I'm uncertain about that though. At the the time it seemed an eternity! It's a wonder that that band did'nt try to kill my friends and I or at least my one friend with the chair and limited vocal skills! Damn. When Exciter finally hit the stage it seemed as if the place exploded! All I remember is a frenzy of headbanging noise, metalheads and a whole cascade of sweat! During their set I ran over to the bar to grab a soda. (I was nowhere near 21 at the time) As I'm drenched in sweat and chugging this thing down, I saw the singer of the opening band. We just looked at each other for a bit. He had two chicks with him while he was just eyeballing me. (probably contemplating semi-immediate death although as to whose death, I'm uncertain.) As he continued staring at me I half thought about mouthing off but I declined. He might've had two chicks with him but his band sucked and he was getting fat and going bald! I turned away and went back towards the stage where Exciter was and promptly forgot about that guy! (sorta')
