Turning a T-Shirt into a Backpatch

Obviously, cut out the design you want, but I'm wondering if there is anything I should do to the fabric to make it less susceptible to fading or tearing? I've heard that I should cut out the back of the shirt too in order to reinforce the cut-out, or should i just use really good stitching? Also, for fading, is there a spray or something for that so the image doesn't fade or turn the black color gray? Thanks!

there was a thread about this before, someone mentioned putting ductape on the backside. that one seems like a good idea to me.
but i dont think you have to worry about fading too much, its a shirt, you wash them 100's of times.

iron some vliseline behind it... likee on a real patch, cut out the design and double-lock the edges

i think he means you have to fold the edges behind it and sew it on like that, so it looks bether and the enges wont fray. people do that with patches that are not embroided around the edges.

What I did with my symbolic back patch:

Needed: Shirt, Spray Glue, thick fabric for back, sewing machine

1 - Cut design out of shirt
2 - Cut thick fabric to fit same size
3 - spray the glue on them both, put together, and let dry
4 - Zig-zag stitch with the sewing machine around the edges

Presto, sturdy DIY backpatch

I wouldn't expect it to fade because generally shirt fading is from excessive washing.

I did a cut out for one of my vests and it's gone through over a year of wear and it doesn't show any signs of ripping or anything but it used to be black fabric now it's pretty brown
I just cut it to the shape I wanted folded the edges and sewed it on worked fine for me

what bayernpirat does is the best possible way.
you reinforce the cloth with that backing material.
i've forgotten the sewing term for it.
then you double hem the edges and maybe coat it with a UV resistant spray.
