Are the CDs too damaged to be played? Seems silly to display optical medial like this. Records I get because you can take it off the wall and give it a spin.

This is a collectible, not something to be played. This is the award that was presented to Metal Blade Records in the early 2000s to commemorate Cannibal Corpse selling a combined 1,000,000 albums. Check out the Centuries of Torment DVD and look at the wall of the office when Brian Slagel or Mike Faley is being interviewed - this is that very award.
