It's no secret that I really don't like this final album under the Sabbat name, given that lyrical genius Martin Walkyier had left the band by this point in 1991. Indeed, I don't even own a copy of the 'Mourning Has Broken' album in any format.
However, when it comes to maintaining a history (of a time to come) of the band, I will make the odd exception for rare items of this period, and this certainly is one of those.
This UK tour shirt shows 10 dates on the tour, but in reality the band played just the first two and that was it, the tour ended. The reason for this? Andy Sneap is frank about what drove the final nails into the Sabbat coffin. “I'll tell you what caused the band to go their separate ways: Me! We did two shows and after the second I was so horrified as to how bad it was and just said, ’Fuck it, this ends here."
And in those pre-internet days all the unsold t-shirts presumably got taken back to someone's house, and bar the odd one or two being sold subsequently I suspect the rest were lost to history. And so the actual numbers of this shirt out in the world must be vanishingly small, all things considered. Interesting that they used the cover art from the band's 'The End Of The Beginning' VHS release on the shirt, not the album artwork, which is itself a saving grace.
To preserve some of the post-Walkyier history I grabbed this one when the opportunity arose. Just don't expect me to listen to the album any time soon...
