maybe something like multiple choise when select shirt from a list like :

>Festival
then after choose one of them another sublist with the bands of the tour or festival. but maybe you are right, too many things to put in it :/

You could add a check box that says "other" instead of having to fill the band field for stuff like leather jackets, just a suggestion.
