Proclamation interview translated to english.

Corrosive
Fri, 07/10/2011 - 21:14

I've translated this interview with Proclamation to english.

This is the original interview in Spanish: http://www.pitchline-zine.com/interviews.item.php?id=198

I need to say... i'm 99% agree with almost all opinions by Usurper.

Also excuse my English :P

------------------------------------------

One of the bands with most international respect out of our frontiers is of course, Proclamation. Is very hard to find many interviews with this black/death band in the media, so thanks to the release of their new album "Execration Of Cruel Bestiality" we contacted with them for speak about the new album, also for diferent topics about the band. Let's start:

-Hi! Before all, thank you for ask this interview for Pitchline and offer some news about Proclamation. All good in the band?

Usurper: Gratia tibi, mortalis. Ave Satani.

-“Execration of Cruel Bestiality” is your newest and third album, what can we say about him? are you happy with the results?

Usurper: Those who suffer the infernal stigmatas in his skin and the crush of their skulls by our previous attacks, must fleeing like rats of our third abomination, because is the same bloody shit.

-In general therms this new album follows the same style as the two previous works, fucking black/death to the vein with the Proclamation mark. You feel the same? Is your intention with the band? Are Proclamation thinking to change or modify their sound in some future?

Usurper: Proclamation is the result of an angry Black Metal Skinheads opening Quorthon's grave for take his skull and witness how we sacrifice Nuclear Holocausto Vengeance with Tom G. Warrior and Wagner Antichrist, burning them to punish their fucking betrayal.

-Allways i felt your sound as Black/Death. You think the band take elements from both styles? You think both sounds allways have been together or must be together for musical and artistic interpretations?

Usurper: Our influences come of an era when Black Metal and Death Metal was the same.

-Both LP and CD versions have come through your classic labels like "Nuclear War Now!" and "Ross Bay Cult". Why Proclamation allways trust in this labels?
What kind of relationship you have with that labels?

Usurper: They where the only labels with sufficient balls to edit our damned abomination "Advent of The Black Omen", in a crucial moment when the only
underground movement was pathetic.

While almost all public thought that the most obscure and dark Black Metal was crap like Moonblood, Mutiilation, Xasthur or Nargaroth; Yousuke edits LP versions of Blasphemy, Black Witchert, VON, Sarcofago, Goatvomit...

-Ross Bay Cult is a small label/distro with a great status in the underground. They manage official merchandise of your big references like Blasphemy.
What relationship you have with it? How manage your material?

Usurper: Ryan Forster (Conqueror/Blasphemy) was very impressed by our abismal caos in Advent... He will take part in our release. So he created Ross Bay Cult for co-edit the album with NWN!, but really is a normal label (his only releases was our 3 albums).

Our relationship with Blasphemy is sealed by steel with fire of sacrifice, beyond Tophet... Hail to Nocturnal Grave Desecrator and Black Winds!

-Your 3 released albums, this new, as “Messiah of Darkness and Impurity” from 2008 and “Advent of the Black Omen” from 2006 have been released in vinyl, even in diferent formats with diferent folders and etc, you think that type of stuff is becoming somehow in a new trend fashion? For example, from few time ago they are releasing lots of "die-hard" editions with more stuff and most great artworks. What you can say me about this?

Usurper: I can't understand why made some good releases like NWN! can be negative. Remember when Sombre or EAL in the mid '90 they released LP's of shitty bands with recicled materials and fucked gatefolds with pixelated covers, allways limited to 100 copies with highly expensive prices like 500€ in Ebay. Truly this was a shit!

Now, if you mean the sickness of collecting stuff appreciating the format and the extras more than the music itself... those deserve an ass-rape with a broken bottle. But well, this shit existed all times in this fucking life.

-Talking about our editions, our two first albums was edited in tape by Coffin Productions. The new album “Execration of Cruel Bestiality” will be edited in tape too? What value you give to this format? What acceptance have recived your previous editions in tape?

Usurper: That tapes was made by the organizers of God Beheading Ritual to make money, promote Proclamation in Siam and enable our first show in Thailand.
A good salary for the people in that country can be 400€ for month. Anyway, we pay all our expenses and the asistance to the ceremony was brutal. Aprox 400 angry siameses full of bullets, patches in tshirts of Abhorer, Necrovore, Archgoat, Beherit, Conqueror...

Is very sad that our shows in Spain, the only you can see are a few shitty Marduk fans and not more than 70 guys in total.

-What importance have for you the artwork in our albums? In our three algums the covers are the same. Who made this covers?

Usurper: all artwork and all Seirims (skull-goats/aberrations with hair) are done by my since the first days of Proclamation. Symbolizes a common theme of a tetralogy in development (AMEN). All albums are a continuation of the previous work.

Azazel skull with the baphomet pentagram, with two inverted crosses, denying two times the son of a men: as a king and as a resurrected.
The heptagram symbolizes the seven heads of the Rahab. The four horns of the great best of the four winds, fallen angel between hordes of watchers, is he will call the mesiah of darkness and impurity. And Lucifer with his trhee aberrant faces, chewing the three big traitors of the european history, trapped in the ice of the ninth circle of hell, cursing his cruel bestiality.

-I need to ask about Teitanblood. I know that NSK left Proclamation few time ago. Why? The band have been changed after this?

Usurper: When Proclamation starts as a band, we never thought to made shows. We made a demo and a rehearsal tape and we start being know by a few possessed metalheads. When Irreverent Captor joins the band, we think to celebrate some live rituals, but most of our songs their weren't prepared to played live. So there is when Reverend of Goetic Rituals join Proclamation, to be the vocalist in our shows.

For the Advent recording he made only a few parts of the vocals. This is the only Proclamation stuff with his invocations.

In Teitanblood his vocals are pretty clean, but i never want that sound for Proclamation. For this i deleted all his tracks in Messiah and i re-recorded with my own vomits, more close to the primitive barbarism i want for the band, and i start practice to singing live, with Irreverent Captor as a second vocalist.

In the music not changed any aspect because our noise allways has been composed by me and Captor.

-Talking about Teitanblood again, any of you are played in this band; even both bands follow a diferent concept, you have the same concepts in some aspects (darkness, etc...). You think Teitanblood and Proclamation are brother-bands? What you think about "Seven Chalices?

Usurper: "Seven Chalices" was recorded by me with the same equipment as Proclamation, and we played the guitar in that album. The only diference is about Nasko was mix the vocals and the mastering was done digital by a friend.

But Teitanblood are our brothers, we rehearsed in the same hole, they come in all our wars and we drink from the same chalice.

I have a very concret and closed mind for this. I have another way to made this. For another reason, i hate the fact that Teitanblood are with NOEVDIA, and all bands in that label are pure shit for gays, like Deathspell Omega, Watain, Dissection...

"Seven Chalices" are dirt and raw like Proclamation, but are more technical, slow and songs are more long and melodic (not in the Dissection style) and in general the sound is more Death Metal of the '90. Sounds like Mayhem fans doing Asphyx's Death Metal style, like Abominations from Morbid Angel, or Autopsy and Carcass.

Proclamation is more hard and rude, and almost all public can't stand our albums the first time, while Teitanblood has had more acceptance.

In our albums don't allow relaxation, slow parts... intros are fast and only to join fast with the next track. Drums are very primitive, repetitive riffs and the music may sound chaotic and dissonant.

-Aside for the three albums, you have some demos and one split. You think to re-edit all this stuff?

Usurper: Not now.

-Proclamation is not friend of the media. I'm talking about interviews and other promotions. Also you don't have any official webpage or MySpace profile.
Why you choose only promote with the music? You don't think that Proclamation is a closed band for the fans?

Usurper: the fact that we aren't all fucking day in the PC does not make Proclamation an inaccesible band. Any of our fans can meet us in a show and share opinions.

We have email, so any fan can write us.

I consider MySpace as a lost of time for teenagers. I'm not interested in the retard crap who are in this site.

-You are a truly respected band in the underground and for most, a cult band. Maybe the most exported band out of our frontiers. How Proclamation has acquired that status?

Usurper: we have a reduced but loyal public. That's all.

Profanation after profanation, we serve the darkness since the beginning until now, and not found any obstacles in our way to the armageddon.

Is true about most bands in Spain are satisfied being the most "authentic" on an internet forum, or be the most popular in the metal bars of the city...

In fact, we are a most hated band than admired.

-You have two edited lives, “Desecrating Madrid” and “Rites of Carnality”. What you can tell me about this? How were recorded? And how about their distribution?

Usurper: with a domestic videocamera, and distributed by mail, no more than 30 copies... nothing irrelevant.

-In your demos are featured two covers (“Fallen angel of doom” by Blasphemy and “Equimanthorn” by Bathory”). After the demo-era, you never made a cover again. Why? You play that covers live? And in rehearsals, you play another covers?

Usurper: nowdays i ask myself how that rehearsal was filter on the internet. Was an exclusive demo for the band and close friends.

In live we play Fallen Angel of Doom, but as you said, after the demo-era we haven't included again any cover in our records. Who want to hear Equimanthorn, who must put Under the sign...

-How is the situation of Proclamation with shows? You've played live since your third album “Execration of Cruel Bestiality”? And out of Spain? In the next dates you play with Graveyard (from Barcelona).

Usurper: I've played 20 times, sharing stage with bands we respect and admire like Blasphemy, Revenge, Archgoat, Black Witchery, Blasphemophager, Mortuary Drape... and other bands not than brutal but with great reputation like Necros Christos, Antaeus, Grave Miasma, Bestial Raids... and we profaned Italy, London, Germany, Belgium, Finland, Thailand, France... and that shows never was shit like our shows in Spain.

I expect something better for the next time in Barcelona...

-Any future plans with our next records? Or is too soon to speak about news? You think to release some 7" or splits with other bands?

Usurper: next, the fourth and last part of our tetralogy.

-What value have the image for a band like Proclamation? You prepare the image for the shows? Or you don't care about this?

Usurper: our image is the reflection of our music: bloody black metal joined with rusty steel under profaned cemeteries in the night.

-And the lyrical aspect in your tracks? What represents for you? This allways is attached to the music, or is secondary?

Usurper: the fall of the heretic angels, his progeny above the earth and the influence of his blood between sons of men, what originates the lords of wars and titans. How he mixted among lineage of Lilith and the descendants of Cain (who his father was revenged 7 times, these will revenged 7 times 7). Blasphemy about Christ...

-How you see the evolution in the underground scene this last years? You belive this is an error?

Usurper: i don't care about current underground. Only few hordes like Black Witchery, Revenge, Archgoat, Blasphemophagher are in my interest.

While underground fans love Dead Congregation or Necros Christos albums, their clean and melodic sound kills me and remembers me how the actual scene never take me to the pits of Hades like i've hear Bathory, Hellhammer, Blasphemy, Possessed, Sarcofago or Sodom for the first time.

I don't know what place we have on the underground, because what we worship and play nowdays is a rotten corpse devoured by worms in the most deep and cursed grave on the cemetari.

-What you think about your Proclamation albums are very easy to find and download via internet?

Usurper: Don't care.

-Well that's all for now. Add something more if you want. And thank you for your time in this interview. Cheers!

Usurper: Veni omnipotens, aeterne Diabolus.

Usurper may come across as an asshole, the way he talks about marduk, death spell omega, watain and dissection etc. But he is true in dedication. When I saw them live, I went up to him and told him that I have been looking forward to seeing them live for months, and that me, my girlfriend and friend came all the way from another city to see them.
This coming from me, wearing a vest with patches from marduk and dissection, and a watain backpatch. He said to me "It is odd, to sign a patch isnt it?" and i told him i didnt have anything else (i bought a cd at the show, but kept it safe so it wouldnt be crushed or lost).

Anyways, Hail Usurper and the rest of Proclamation for that excellent night of poser bashing and blasphemy darkness! This is a great interview!

Corrosive's picture

I meet Usurper time ago in a show. And i have few friends who know him better than me. As i know, he HATES at least ALL typical or the most common black metal (to say somehow) genres and bands except War Metal and oldschool bands. He is very dedicated to the old spirit.

Tico Tyrant's picture

A mysterious musical figure, dedicated to his work, strongly opinionated and yet...he might be a bit blinded as well, it's hard to imagine anyone who can't see the perfection of Dissection(especially in their early works), but that being said...I fucking love Proclamation's attitude towards black metal, some call it "elitist" I call it sticking to what you believe in and fuck the rest! It would be a wicked thing to see if they would come here for a show where I live, I am waiting on such bands as Black Witchery, Archgoat, Blasphemophagher and Proclamation...I mean, fuck! This is BC, THE LAND OF BLASPHEMY!
