I'm a Canadian metalhead from Edmonton, Alberta. I prefer my music to be fast and really heavy which is why my favourite subgenres tend to be more on the extreme side-- mainly listen to Thrash, Black, and Death. But in all honesty, I do dabble in many other subgenres of metal such as power, NWOBHM, stoner, sludge, crossover, speed, and a very limited amount of symphonic.
If I had to pick my all-time favourite style of metal, it would have to be Thrash metal. Especially Teutonic thrash from Germany. I also have a soft spot for Canadian thrash metal as well.
Sadly, I haven't been to many festivals because I live in Canada. I have been to a few local one-off festival shows (Monsters of Rock - in Calgary, Heavy MTL - in Montreal, and Chaos AB - in Edmonton). Now that I'm all grown up, whenever my partner and I plan a vacation, it's usually planned around a major metal music event. The most recent shows we were fortunate enough to experience were Metal Allegiance, Doro Pesch, and Metal Church in Los Angeles, CA.
The dream is to attend as many European metal festivals as possible before I die.
