Any Sewing into the darkness

Looking into th...

Hey folks,
this is for a friend, who asked me about my sewing technique. Well, I thought for a while, how to explain it best and as I am not on Youtube or so I decided, pictures would be best. But sending like 10+ pictures by e-mail felt like a pain in the ass. Then I remembered Mr. Stereodeth doing these kind of tutors here sometimes and I thought I could share my thoughts on this issue with the community! Maybe there are fruitfull contributions to this and everyone can learn something from each other. Allright, enough said, let's go.

I enjoy the latest Idle Hands EP "Don't waste your time" while doing this. How fitting. :-D

Here is the description to the pictures:
1) Start in a corner of the patch from BELOW the vest, leave like 6 cm of the thread below, this will come in handy later. Stitch up and down again nearby, leaving a small loop.
2) Stitch up again in the corner again and make sure, you make your way with the needle through the loop.
3) Now you are on the top of the patch and make the first cm along the border (important: do not stitch by any means in the border, always near it! Otherwise a border damage is at risk) and go down again. Then you go a little bit backwards, like 3mm and go back up again.
4) again.
5) again.
6) here is the point: you try to make a straight line, with overlapping loops (by always going a little bit back when you come up). This is the point, where I often fail hard on my own aim, but as I am not only very incapable of sewing I am also very lazy, which is a great combination for any craftmanship. ;-)
I try to make it clearer by separating the thread-line in three sections:
-1: this is how you try to sew, making a straight line
-2: I separated each stich on purpose, so you see the backwards-movement on every stich "down"
-3: straight line again (being an idiot and not going back down to the border...)
7) go all around the patch and go down again in the corner you began with
8) now you find the 6cm long thread you left at the beginning come in handy!
9) cut the current thread to size
10) make 2-3 knots
11) yeah. knots. glad I made a picture of knots.
12) hey, cool patch! :-) It should look like this.
13) or like this!
14) works also with a round patch! Great album, by the way, go check it out!
15) yeah, well, this one I did after the 6th beer probably...
16) most important: enjoy your work and be proud of what you have accomplished:

Sewing your patches by hand is like bringing a child to life.

Happy sewing!
