I had some time on my hands, so I decided to make a Mercyful Fate backpatch. I decided for the Melissa artwork because it consists of only a few single-colored areas without much detailed structure. And this is how I made it:
- First I copied the main lines of the Artwork onto a A3 paper.
- Then I copied these lines onto a black cloth and cut out the non-back parts.
- I cut out pieces of colored cloth and ironed them onto a black piece of cloth using cloth-glue that is ironed onto one piece of cloth, and then one remnoves a protective film and irons another piece of cloth onto the first.
- Now I ironed the front cloth onto the cloth with the colored patches, ending up with a layered cloth of two black cloths with the colored cloths in between.
- Then I added a few small pieces of cloth for the horn.
- Finally, I hand-sewed along all borders, of course the most time-consuming step but I like sewing. ^^
- In the end, I sewed along the borders of the backpatch with the sewing machine.
That's it! It turned out close-to-perfect. The only thing not perfect is that I used denim cloth for the blue areas, and this cloth is thicker than the red and yellow cloths, so that the border between the blue and red clotht is visible if one looks closely.

I already replaced my Overkill backpatch with this one, BTW, though I'll wait some time until I post a new Kutte entry.

great job! how long did it take?
CryptKeeper on
thanx! it took surprisingly little time actually, considering how long the tempo of the damned patch took... only a few weeks, say about one month.
Terroristic-Ham... on
well you can tell it was carefully made! it looks great! can't wait to see it on your kutte!
CryptKeeper on
I've put it on my kutte as soon as I had finished it (and after photographing it for tshirtslayer ^^), but I'll wait some more time until I upload it. I first want a new "equilibrium of patches" to develop itself on my kutte, if you get what I mean.
There'll soon be some new DIY patch entries though, I've made a patch from the vertical Sodom logo I once embroidered directly onto my first kutte (--> http://tshirtslayer.com/files-tshirt/imagecache/shirtview/RIMG0086.jpg ) and a Skull Fist logo patch, both using a sewing machine (I found out how to make these thight embroidery-like seams, so I'm able to sew bayernpirat-style now!! ^^).

Yeah I know what you mean. you want it to form naturally instead of forcing it.
Good job on the DIY stuff. I too make a few embroidered patches from time to time. THe only problem is I cant seem to get the sharp points of logos to look right... for example in the sodom logo you did I wouldn't be able to do it because how the letters come to a point. any tips?
CryptKeeper on
Not really... I mean the way I embroidered the sodom logo is just doing "stich up - long forward - stich down - short backward - stich up again ..." and this over and over again next to each other until the areas were filled. You get a lot of details this way, but it takes simnply toooooo much time...
Terroristic-Ham... on
yes I have thought of using that way but as you mentioned it takes too long! Maybe I'll give it a try though! :)

The technique works well for small stuff without large colored areas, e.g. the sodom logo. Then you can embroider great details without taking too much time...

it's great! Fantastic! all Hail Satan!

Awesome! You gave me good ideas to make some patches!

Wonderful piece of DIY! :D
Damn, as easy as the design seems it works perfectly because of it. The longer you look at it the more haunting it looks.
