Man, Thanks always ! I had so many more letters from Rob, but of course with time and moving and just plain carelessness, I misplaces/lost them.
I had the letter when him and Albert got kicked out ! Don't ask me how I could've misplaced such an important letter. I also had a letter where Rob mentioned what F.C.I. stood for in ' The Awakening ' song. It stands for Flying Cat Intro... Pretty funny huh ?
Anyhow he is like the coolest cat ever. I hope to see him someday. Damn how the years just vanish.
On an old episode of Unsolved Mysteries, the “Rise Above” EP was briefly shown in a re-enactment of a scene where a family broke down near Stockton (east of the Bay Area) and found an abandoned backpack on the side of the road with collection of heavy metal cassettes and a VHS tape. Among those cassettes was that Evildead EP and that VHS (which was the focal point of the segment) that showed an arsonist filming a house that he burned down in Redwood City which is 20 minutes south of San Francisco. He was saying some crazy pseudo-satanic shit while filming the burning of the house. Pretty dark, but cheesy looking back now! Since they uploaded all the old episodes of my favorite TV show of all time, I was able to relive my childhood and watch the early seasons.
The segment starts at 32:06 and the clip where the family finds the cassette is at 33:51. When I watched it I had to pause to see what the cassettes were and the only one I recognized was that Evildead EP. You can’t tell what the other ones are.
Anyways, I feel like the only one in the world that had ever noticed this.
It’s not the only time that a Metal band has been mentioned on this show. On one episode, two metalheads go on a killing spree in Texas and one of the guys in the re-enactment is wearing a Iron Maiden - Purgatory tour shirt with the “Alive In America” print on the back. I have that reprint.
Also, on another episode a metalhead guy kidnaps and kills (if I remember correctly) a convenient store clerk lady in Florida and is seen wearing a total knock-off Megadeth shirt. Id you noticed, I took a screenshot from the segment and used it as my profile picture. Witnesses said he was wearing a band shirt with the words “Death” on it and the producers probably thought it was Megadeth. It could of very well been Death, especially since this took place in South Florida around the late 80’s.
Movies and TV shows back then always made us metalheads like we were always up to know good - well, this was the time of the satanic panic. Such a innocent time, especially compared to now. Alright, enjoy this little tidbit of EvilDead trivia that the band probably doesn’t even know about. Who knows? Perhaps, it’s an Unsolved Mystery hahaha!
DAMN !!! This just rocked my world ! All these years, and I had absolutely no idea about this ? You're probably right about the band being totally unaware themselves. There would have been a strong possibility that I could have gone to my grave and never enjoyed seeing this. Thanks for being vigilant and a fan of the show. I can't wait to watch it. FYI, there was a show in the mid 1980's called ' 21 Jump Street ' starring Johnny Depp. In an episode from season one he goes into a record store and picks up a copy of Cryptic Slaughter's ' Convicted '. I will look for the episode on You Tube and forward the link. To reflect on your last comment, that was the best of times ! I always loved intimidating the general public with our music and appearance. The PMRC couldn't do shit to stop the Metal World ! We just pissed them off more and more. We sent them into early retirement.
The show was produced in Burbank (near Los Angeles) so somehow that cassette became a prop in the re-enactment. The band is also from L.A. but the odds of this being in the show is pretty astonishing. Great promotion for the band if you were able to notice!
On the show “Rescue 911” which is hosted by William Shatner, there’s An episode where a guy is wearing an S.O.D. shirt.
