Hail Metal Brothers,
I recently bought an Iron Maiden "Killers" T-shirt via eBay from a trusted seller from Italy. It has its tag removed and on the front it says " © 1981 Iron Maiden Holdings Ltd. Licensed by ils".
Have any of you ever heard of this "ils" licensee? Is this an Italian company? I've done some research - Iron Maiden Holdings were established in 1981 so it may be a genuine tee from the same year.
Bunch of photos here:

Any clues?

That company licensed Maiden merch through the second half of the 80's onwards - you'll find it written on postcards, posters, flags, etc.. as well as shirts. 100% official.
The Killers artwork was painted in 1981, hence the copyright on the image. Your shirt looks like a 90's re print. Cheers!

Fuggle, that's odd. I always thought that companies such as Brockum, Giant or IM Holdings put item's actual manufacturing year rather than the year when the desing or artwork were created. You can find many Killers reprints with dates such as 2008, 2010 etc. Thanks for the tips anyway :)

You're right with the modern shirts - I think once you pass 15 years or so from the original, the copyrights become actual years of printing. Back in the 80's and early 90's the Maiden FC always had album cover shirts (1-sided) for sale - they always showed the original year, even if printed in 85, 88 or 92.. :)

Thanks again - you seem to have a vast knowledge about the band merch business ;) I wish I knew the exact year when this particular IM tee was made. Just out of curiosity - I like to know things :)
