A blast from the past since this vest ceased to exist a long time ago but I kept this pics since then and I thought it might be a good idea to post it here for historical purposes.
This was the very last state of the vest (mid 2014) before realizing how odd it looked and how sparsely I was wearing it - only for a few select shows or festivals.
I grow out of the "full vest" thing. I felt it as something completlely overdone, pretentious and too much try-hard.
I felt looking like a freak wearing this outside of the few occassions where it fitted, so too much of a hassle for something that was rearely taken out of the closet.
Some updates were posted here on TSS back in the time so maybe some of you could remember it.
During the first year (2010) I had a vintage Slayer "Show No Mercy" backpatch that I pretended to change for the vintage "Hell Awaits" one. However around 2011 I found that vintage Sodom backpath for a mere 5€ on a now defunct distro and I was shocked to know that it was one of Sodom's holy grails of merchandise. So for a long time I wore this vest with a lot of pride.
Patches were changing on a constant basis during all this time: selling, buying, trading... Sometimes removing patches from bands I didn't listen to in a long time or that I felt they no longer represented myself. Or sometimes changing a patch from a band I had multiple patches of. It's said a vest is never finished.
Dismantled it in late 2014. Sold most of the patches including the backpatch (for now a ridiculous price) and changed for a more classic and simple vest that could be worn everywhere and on virtually any occasion.
I never regretted to dismantle it and sell almost everything except a very few exceptions.
On an insight I now feel like this vest represented the end of a "golden era" of patches before the explosion of clown patch distros, clown patch shapes, clown oversaturated bad quality colorful patches and much before the "patch game" became a meme of itself.
Or maybe I'm just getting old and that's an old man rant!

Welcome back! I still have my Carnivore - Crush Kill Destroy patch from maybe 2012? Heavily agree with the clown patches. Going to shows now everyone’s vest is a cookie cutter/Tetris mess.
Corrosive on
Correct, that Carnivore patch was made back in 2012. I think it was the first woven patch from this band. I remember I contacted Louie (ex-drummer) and he liked them so much that I sent him a package of patches for him and any remaining member/close friend of the band he was still in contact with. He approved them. It was such a nice experience for me.

Oh wow so they are not bootlegs? That’s awesome! Hope all is well with you brother!

A very accurate and critical opinion of the current problematic in the ''patch-market'' for sure.
I also used to have a related mindset regarding the overuse of patches on a vest, but with the progress of time the aestehtic requirements and the personal musical taste had changed, so now I think, that this whole ''less is more''-approach is definitely way more suited for me, as I'm wearing my vests or jackets in my everyday life.
Would very like to see your current vest.

Thanks for your words! I got into the same conclusion back then and I was very happy to make a simple and classic looking vest that made me felt comfortable and good looking everwhere and for many different occasions.
I'm currently updating my vest, so I will post it here soon!!
And I added the previous version in your "Less is more" group. Cheers!

Damn... this is a real blast from the past, brings me back to the jackets that inspired me when I first joined this website. Seeing these older bootlegs like Minotaur, Nocturnal, Nifelheim triangle, brings back a lot of nostalgia.

I think you were also active here when I was posting this vest back then? At least I remember you from a long time ago by now!!
I still remember a lot of older vests posted here on TSS that unfortunately are no longer here. I'm still believing that the way we created vests and treated patches drastically changed over the years for worse.

I was just getting started back then, but I'm sure I saw it when you put it up the first time. I do agree with you to some extent; that said the supply of vintage patches wasn't going to last forever, and with lots of youngsters and new bands emerging each year the philosphy will naturally morph into something else. Bootlegging was also very different in the early 2010s, it was dedicated fans like Morbideath trying to make a wearable token for themselves and other maniacs to enjoy. These days it is predominantly low effort cash grabs. My solution, I rarely buy any hahaha.

I started with a lot of enthusiasm, years ago (since my old one was stolen, when i was very young 'n drunk) ..but when this 'patch game' (like u guys say) started...i lost a little bit of interested with every year which passed by. My vest is still not finished now (lol..blank front still)..and no idea if it will be finished.
But ur old one, was very nice dude, very nice!!!

I think I remember something about your old vest getting stolen? You're also another veteran in here!!
I encourage you to make a more simple vest with some of your most beloved patches!!

Well, this is one of the best battle vest I've ever seen since a long time ago, and since then I've got inspired to build my own battle vest.
This one is definitely a blast from the past, and for the sake of throwback to the golden era of patches collecting, thanks for sharing again this magnificent piece of work that you've ever done.

Thanks a lot for your kind words and I'm happy this old vest inspires you to keep doing your own stuff!! BTW your vests are among the best lately and they remind me a lot to the vests made by metalheads in the late '00s and early '10s. It brings me a lot of nostalgia.
Keep going!!

Thanks mate! such a kind words, I'm glad you like my vests. Of course I would keep going and keeping the "traditional" ways of the art of battle vest.
