Mayhem Black Metal Battle Jacket

I wanted a simple and tasteful black vest. This is what I came up with. I may add cone studs to the back to frame in the patches in the back panel and the top panel around the collar.

The was my first vest, all hand sewn and vest dyed black from a blue Levi's jacket.

Looks fucking good man! I think the cone studs would be a good idea. Random question.. Did you have any issues with your vest having a blue tint to it after dying it black? I have dyed a few for friends and I have had a bit of problems with that when the vest starts out as a darker blue.

I got lucky with this one. I've had major problems with every other piece of denim that started out blue that I tried to dye black. The worst of them started to turn purple or pinkish in the faded parts because of the red dye that's in the black powder dyes. This one I just used black dye on. My best other scenario was when I started with a grey jacket and used 3 packets of black and 1 packet of dark green (powder dye). The black dye usually has a lot of indigo/dark blue in it, which means it also has red in it. You need the green to counteract the red to make it brownish, and that way you'll get away from the purple or pink look in the faded/stonewashed parts. I didn't have that problem with this jacket at all. Another thing I've done is used the black spray dye after using black powder dye. You finish the entire powder process but before it dries in the final stage you use the spray dye. Let it air dry and cure, then put it in the dryer.

Yeah, I think I'll pick up some cones and give it a shot. I'll start with the top panel and if I like the look, I'll add them also to the back panel wherever the denim is showing.

Well done. I'm flirting with the possibility of making a relatively simple Black/Folk/Pagan/Viking Metal themed battle jacket myself. This is a weird question, but is it a pain in the ass sewing those patches over those seams at all? Also, do you think this vest is any good? http://www.speedy-promotion.com/product_info.php?info=p4363_Jeanswaistco...

Obviously a black vest goes better with Black Metal than other colors. You can view a larger picture of that vest by clicking on what you see on that page. What do you think?
