Yes it is. These don't pop up often so I watched the bidding process. Didn't bid on it because I already have the blue border one.
Great catch man! Good to see it end up in your collection. You have awesome stuff mate!
Yeah! As far as I know it was sold with a pack of gum as a promotion for the album. If I'm wrong I'm sure Heavy Metal Chemist would be able to give you more creditable information. It's a pretty neat idea really. Similar to how they used to sell baseball and hockey cards back in the day.
Heavy metal chemist was nothing more than a bunch of undisclosed molecules when this patch was released π
When I got into collecting and learned about this patch it was referred to as the "bubble gum Trooper". I didn't knew anything about the origin of this patch, but it was the auction you won where it was stated that this patch was given out with bubblegum. You could contact the seller and ask where he got that information from. The guy you bought it from seems to be knowledgeable about patches and also around in the 80's.
Hahaha when I said that I thought you would be able to give more creditable information I was referring to your all knowing knowledge of Iron Maiden merchandise!
Believe it or not, but I started collecting about 1 year ago, so in that sense I'm quite new to the scene. I learned a lot, but I still ask a lot as well π
Regarding the bubblegum Trooper I know just as much as you π
Wow! So we are both the young ones here π€ͺ There are some die hard old school collectors here who collect for years. We are the Newbies π You also managed to build up an impressive collection of awesome and rare patches in such a short period of time!
Actually, I just noticed it is exactly 1 year ago to the day that I uploaded the back patches into my account, so maybe this is actually an one year anniversary for me π€π₯³π€ π
That's awesome! Happy one year anniversaryπ₯³π€!! I used to collect hockey cards but it transitioned into band merchandise after highschool when I got hooked from buying these Iron Maiden patches at one of my first concerts https://tshirtslayer.com/patch/iron-maiden-legacy-beast-tour-patch-1. I seem to recall that around the same time I got those patches and joined TSS you and I had a brief conversation about a potential sale and trade for one of your Somewhere In Time back patches and it involved my Legacy Of The Beast patches. And same as you, Looking into the Darkness aided in my addiction for patches as well lol.
Thanks π
It's cool to have you on the scene man. I really enjoy your uploads a lot, so keep them coming!
So the Legacy of the Beast tour was your first Maiden gig? That is an impressive tour to see Maiden for the first time. The set list was absolutely killer in my opinion. I really enjoyed the set and of course the stage show.
Funny to see that Looking into the Darkness seems to pull many more people into the scene hahaha. Well, as said, good to have you here mate. I bet that it's just a matter of time before we trade π
Thanks man! Yeah Legacy of the Beast was my first Maiden show. It was actually my first Metal concert! Definitely a great show and performance. I'll definitely see them again if I get the chance.
Wow! That's really amazing. It seem Maiden grabbed you by the bollocks and you immediately started collecting π
What was your favorite song from the setlist? Mine was Sign of the Cross. I loved that song since I saw it on Rock in Rio on DVD, and always hoped they would play it live again. For me an absolute highlight.
Are you serious about bubble gum tale??? One year ago, responding to some comments in my own post, i said "indeed, this patch came as a gift when buying a pallet of bubble gum". I couldn't imagine someone was going to take it seriously, hahahahaha
It was stated by the seller on eBay that this patch came with a pack of gum. I've bought from this seller as well and he seems like a true old patch maniac. He is not here on TSS so the chances that he got that info from you is slim, but not excluded.
Do you know anything about the origin of this patch?
obviously the seller, 666purgatory looks for info in this page prior to selling his patches, without a keen eye to distinguish something real from a joke
Tha patch is known as "bubble gum" referring to the colors, that's it
What are the dimensions of this patch? I can tell it's small... :o
Also, man if ONLY gum came with this patch it would be so tight. Takes me back to the old days where you could get gum in packs of cards (dunno if they still do that,) I know japan still does stuff like this though, often times you can buy a small toy that comes with a few single-sealed packs of candy in a unappealing color xD. Like: buy a $15-30 Gundam toy and you'd get like 3 pieces of candy... weird huh? I'd be fine with an additional accessory for the toy, but adding in candy or gum in a non-gumball-machine/gashapon is just a little much... But, sew on patches in Gum? that would be tight.

Congrats Seth!π₯³ So was it you who got it on the latest eBay auction? It's such an awesome patch, and very hard to get as well.

Thanks! I purchased this on eBay about two months ago. Maybe it's the same one you're referring to?

That's pretty cool that you had seen it. And thanks again! My stuff is hardly even measurable in comparison to your amazing collection though haha!

I did not know this came with pack of bubble gum in the 1980 .. I always thought it was a 80s bootleg. Interesting trivia fact !!

My first upload was in 2018. I bought this rare Killers bootleg back patch from Music4U at Graspop 2018 (https://tshirtslayer.com/patch/iron-maiden-killers-vintage-80s-back-patch). But I didn't start to collect back then.
About a year ago I bough a licensed Killers (https://tshirtslayer.com/patch/iron-maiden-killers-back-patch-1981-1st-v...) and 2 Minutes to Midnight (https://tshirtslayer.com/patch/iron-maiden-2-minutes-midnight-vintage-ba...) from Looking into the Darkness, and I completely fell in love with Maiden back patches, and from that moment on I went down the rabbit hole π .... my poor wallet π

You have enough small Maiden patches to cover a whole room! π So now you will also start with Maiden back patches? π
