Why do americans like confederate flag so much?

Being from Texas, I understand why some choose to embrace the confederate flag. The general idea is opposition to unlawful authority, which is what the American Civil War was actually about. It's the same thing the American Revolution was about. Making it a moral crusade against racism was a yankee afterthought.
