I'm really not feeling it, there was just something wrong about it. But at least Kerry finally has reduced the screeching in his solos, always hated that.

it started a bit slow..but than this break out :P..I liked it a lot!
its not as great as hate world wide hen that song came out on single ..aah:I happy with it!

I don't like it at all honestly, I think it's boring and generic. But when the whole album comes out I will listen to it with an open mind, won't let 1 song ruin it for me
MattCore_13 on
Just hearing this now... And it is painful to listen to. Really boring and redundant- Tom Araya and Kerry King should really just call it a day. At this point it feels like they are just ruining the legacy of a legendary band. Christ Illusion was the last great Slayer album, and with Jeff being deceased (RIP) and Dave being kicked out for wanting his fair share, it seems safe to say that this band should preserve itself by not putting out garbage like this. Kerry King is an egomaniacal fool to try and keep the band going, and Tom Araya is just there for the paycheck. The band has sounded tired for a long time and this is just kicking a dead horse. It's a shit sandwich and I'm not going to take a bite.
To each their own, but I give this one a big thumbs down and will just keep my ideal of what Slayer was immortalized by listening to the great music they gave us.
NLLeeuw
LOL..is 13 your age? whahahaha..and this comes from one who listens to canibal corpse?...
you should have heard canibalcorpse guitarist Pat O'Brien filling in for jeff whahaha..what an idiot..could not play one song decently!..what a crap guitarist!
sorry dude..if you got nothing nice to says please dont say anything at al.
tired....hahaha... oviously you did not hear them for a long long time :D

I for one have to agree with MattCore... I really tried to listen to this with a open mind, but sadly I just can't find anything to like about the song. To me, there's nothing memorable about it, and it certainly does not have the vibe I expect from a band like Slayer. The songwriting and energy sounds incredibly forced to me. I can't hear any sort of creativity in this, but hey, I guess that's to be expected with any band that signs to Nuclear Blast. The production, though not quite as atrocious as on World Painted Blood, is nothing to write home about as well.
In my humble opinion, Slayer was crippled when they threw out Dave, and it died with Jeff. But then again, they have never come close to their 80's output since, well, the 80's...
Also, and I'm honestly not trying to be a dick here, pulling the "if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all" card seems a bit strange if literally every sentence in your comment is negative as well. Just saying :)
NLLeeuw
world painted blood did almost the same for me as reign in blood :)
slayer made the song together with dave...if jeff did anything for the song I dont know..
to be honest: dave was a great drummer but an ashole for lots of stuff he did do towards slayer..no wonder he got kicket out: again!
I seriously believe it had nothing to do with money!.
80thies..hmmmmzzzz... I gues we dont live in the eithies any more.
appart from that: what band is still the same as back than?...most of em had their best albums in those years.
we cant keep on writing about evil satanic devils hahaha.
in my defence I did not have anything nice to say either on sudge "attack "...In my opinion it was tasteless comming from a canibal corpse fan wich guitar player almost ruined the rest of the tour of slayer...
halve of the time tom was looking his way ...becourse of all the mistakes he made...I guess I'm still pissed of about it
(klokgebouw eindhoven ,netherlands)
I prefer your words about it Stronthor !

I just remember it sounding pretty bland. Left no impression on me what so ever. I definitely will check out any new album just for old times sake. But as of now, I don't exactly have high hopes for any future release. Might be blatant cynicism talking, but too me this just seems like a way for them to prove a point, that they still can go on without Jeff rather than them writing this out of sheer inspiration.
nightslasher26 on
They should just split up.Farewell tour and that's it.We have a lot of bands the sound like old Slayer and honestly that's all I need. Now they are beating the dead cow...
NLLeeuw
I think we should wait for the next album to make conclusions..hell there might be enough matharial from jeff that makes it all right again.
take the version of paul bostaph's reing in blood..I never heard dave play like it!...much much bether!..1st time it realy fuckin sounded as if the whole sky would come dawn on us!
Stathis on
So new slayer are generic (and i agree) and should disband, but the new bands that copy what slayer did 30 years ago are not generic and are worth listening to??? I think it is not up to us to decide whether they should split up or not. If you don't like the new album don't fucking buy it and wait for the next one.
As for the new song it is not that bad but if the rest of the album is like that i will definitely not buy it. It is really mediocre but to be honest i didn't expect anything more
nightslasher26 on
I did not said they are generic.Did you listen to lyrics in implode? It's like angry 13 year old wrote it.Second of all Tom Araya's voice is fucked up he sounds like old crack addict.
I personally don't like any new album from pioneering bands (except new Protector and Massacre that was pretty cool) you know.Like I don't like new Destruction,Sodom or whatever. But I do like new Nocturnal because they sound like Destruction DID 20 years ago.Pioneering bands dont sound like they used to that is a fact, now you can like it or not but they are still different.I piss on that band ''evolving''.I would rather listen to slayer that try to sound like they did on Hell Awaits then this ''we are trendy and dont live in the past'' sounding albums...
Stathis on
I don't like any new albums from old school bands either and by new i mean everything released in the 90's and so on. But it is funny people accusing those old bands for sounding generic nowadays while they listen to bands who copy what the others did in the 80's.
The whole sound evolution doesn't apply to Slayer in my opinion. It is not like they changed their sound to get more popular. That's just the music they play nowadays. At least they support it by playing live songs from newer albums unlike Metallica for example.
NLLeeuw
80thies was very important to the whole metal scene..90thies was diferend: they could not keep on singing about fuck, bomb, devil, satan and demons.I even new a band who made a song about it in the early 90thies:killatomicbomfuck :)..says enough about it i guess.
The whole scene has split up anywayt.. black metal was born and they kept on playing about satnism, death metal was born, grind core ect ect..you cant expect from most bands from the 80thies to keep on doing what they did back than.
But slayer did it any way: undisputed attitude!..it has absolutly nothing to do with the 90thies :) so I guess you should consider what you just said haha..ok the rest has changed..but that what they always said:we do whatever we want: each album we make is pronly going to be totally diferend from the others(this is actually said on the south of heaven album!:as it wasn't what people expected after reign in blood)
metalica is the whore of metal in my opinion...when cliff was still alive they couldnt play a desend song live..now they can they can its all for the money..still ..its strange that sudge band get's so big.
I bether shut up now before I'm taking more skelletons out of the closed hahaha
appart from all this: we should listen to what we like and write about that in stead of complaning on things we dont like!
not??? ;)
Stathis on
That's what i said about Slayer. They write the music they want (whether we like it or not) and they defend their options by playing it live, at least that's what they did every time i saw them (unlike metallica who play live only songs from the first 4 albums).
I am not just talking about the lyrics, yea i can't expect a 30 year old band to keep on singing about satan, evil etc etc, although there are many respectable bands who kept their lyrical themes. But their music has changed alot. The productions as well and they just miss the feeling they had back then. That's why i would rather another version of Hell Awaits for example than the new album.

I thought it was alright. Agree though, You cant just take what Dave has to say on it and not hear what Kerry or Tom have to say. But since they didnt, it seems like Dave might be right...

Ive done a litle research on all dave his ups and down's and posted them on facebook..I never got any responce from the guy..they where all things I got from intervieuws, wikipedia and articles from very oild and new magazines.
I'll try and find em again and post them uphere...If this is all true dave just should shut the fuck up and get on with his life and be very very happy they considered to take his back for a couple of years at all!
on the money insident: he blames kerry for all..dont forget rick ashole rubin has the most control of all their money!
ask empleyees who toured with slayer...you wont believe what they have to say!...band members of slayer where totally diferend than rick rubin..I know this from people and fam of slayer themselves;specially the araya fam!: they are very very nice!
kerry does not need all the money dave talkes about: he's got a succesfull snake farm ,kerry king industries,a dog breeding kennal and lots of other contracts.

Erik Schouten Im getting a litle fed up with all this shit About "all the money he did not get"
And "all the diferences" there where in payment.
It comes from both ways!
If dave would not have left several times Maybe he would have made the same as other band members! I dont hear Amy of you About that!
There has always been problems with dave and slayer : where ever two people have a "flight"two are To blame!
Read Some old interviews my fellow fans and you would know this!
And dedication To Slayer?
You feld Like diferend than now with your band?
How About going everywhere with the band instead of staying behind at the fuckin hotel until it was time To play? Thats what you did as wel for quite Some fuckin years!
In 2002 I won a meet and Greet with the band(Slayer)... All there exept for YOU dave!
You where rather at the fuckin hotel they told me, so dont tell Amy shit About devotion/ dedication or whatever!
Of course ashole king Shoud have payed you, of course you still Shoud play with them.
But it comes both ways in my opinion:I think theres more To it than youre telling.
Dont get me wrong: I love youre work with Slayer!
Im Nearly reachin 1000 diferend items in collection of slayer

Erik Schouten for example: out of an old metal magazine: slayer drummer does not want to play again it may be femiliar that dave lombardo has left slayer and was replaced by ex whiplash drummer who become a steady drummer for slayer. But whats steady these days?? The rumor at that moment was that scaglioni wouldbe fired after the tour and peolpe hoped for the come back of Sir Lombordo.... Defenedly not! was dave's comment on this question: I've played for this band for five years.Done eaverything I was asked for and when I asked if I could bring my wife for a tour on my own expence all other members protested. I coulnt belive it..I wil Never play for slayer again!

Erik Schouten Later on: Never say never I cant see any posibility to ever play with slayer again(lombardo) This where the last words to be said Words spoken by Sir Dave Lombardo,a few moths ago....... The band he was talking about was Slayer. He soundet very convincing, good old Dave We were very suppriced whenwe heard out of new york the following message:Dave was playing with slayer again, this can't be right? Still.. the message was right! Rx-whiplash drummer T.J.Slaglione could hold his place in the band for just a short while becourse the rest of the band had talked dave into it again to play with them! what Kerry had to say about this matter forther in this maggazine is already hystory. As we all remember Dave had left the band becourdse he could not bring his wife on tour.Has Kerry and the others come around on this?We shall see abouit this very soon, becorse on 3th of may they are playing in amsterdam. If we see dave with a woman holding his arm we know who won.Dave might have learned something as well out of this affair:never say never!

Erik Schouten crach magazine(alex gernandt) ..just before the reign in blood tour europe: crash:now for a totally diferend question: why has Dave Lombardo left slayer? Tom Araya: It was his own wish,he left on his own. A real reason was never given by Dave. I assume he wants to marry his girlfriend and spend more time with her instead of touring with slayer

Erik Schouten metal hammer 17 Could you give some back ground info on Dave's leaving? Kerry King :you can ask me anything you want about dave..... He decieded to merry one day with his girlfriend. becourse of this troubles came with it,becourse in dave's opinion his wife had to be eaverywhere where he was when we went touring. we wanted to compromise, like she could come for a week or so But we could not compromise so he left before we could fire him the situation is just rotten.Dave is one of the best drummers thrashdrummers in the world. The last what I got of it is that he left the whole scene and does nothing at the moment. This is a very hard lost! At this moment Dave is back with Slayer, see for yourselves in the collorfull news in this intervieuw... Aardschokday was canceled..what were the reasons of this? Kerry:where was some major missunderstandings with our booking agent:he wanted to finisch it all bij himselves. The only one he had contact with was Dave who told us guys only have of all. This was a problem we also discussed with dave.At that moment we could not function as a headliner.

Slayer was so friendly to us: we were invited into the touring bus on its way to nurnberg germany.
On its way we came across some old story's,so the five of them(no mistake here!:miss lombardo was constandly
there as fifth bandmember)could be studied by us.
Tom was bussy with his knowledse of german language,Dave(with his short cut hair, what more of a new wave fa-look had)
was bussy with his wife and kerry and dave where too bussy with themselves

Erik Schouten Aardschok april 1994 In okt 91 we spoke for the loast time with slayer... At that moment we were in company of dave lombardo in eurpe to join his words for the press in the matter of the live album decade of agression that came out 2,5 years ago........ On the foundations forum of 91 a very happy dave was walkin around. He was just devorced from his wife and enjoyed life fully. In the beginning of 92 not even 4 moths later he went back to his wife while in the mean time he was kicket out of slayer. Has the one to do with another? Tom: no way, this had nothing to do with another, but it does give you a picture of a person as Dave Lombardo. If youré dealing with sudge a person you get fed up with it. So there where no musical diferences? Not at all,but if you dealing with someones problems for 10 years there has to be a point of ending it. THIS IS THE POINT WHERE PAUL ENTERED THE BAND ....... Paul fits in perfectly: sindse his entree we did not have to cut in our time while reversing plus we never had to fear he would not show up.This was something we constantly had to live with when dave played for slayer.

Erik Schouten utrakill april/may 1994 Tom Araya: mostly we still writing songs about death.Isuppose we could try and get into near death experiences, but, nah, good old death itself. Paul made a big contribution to the music. He's more than just a drummer. As a result,we are a much more tighter unit than evre before. Gripping stuff: Dave has been out of the band for two years and playes for two bands at this time. Dave: it's got more drums, more drive and it is more rhythmic.I played some rhythm-guitar myself..But instead of the evil darkness that slayer was about, this is more about life, inner feelings, how you feel. There's a little darkness in the lyrics Gus (our singer)writes, but there's none of the 'evil satan' stuff-this is the '90s,man! What was that about dave? a bit dumm to say sudge things..even dummer when you join them again a few years later!

Erik Schouten Aardschok dec 1995 Divine intervention tour: slayer was touring with machine head..A great tour..still there where some problems..this time with machinehaeds drummer. (this is not written in aardschok:I met their drummer in Rotterdam, completely waisted on beer and weed!..as stoned as he was he wanted to walk to their tour bus..with he could not:so we had to help him out!..still he played brilliant in the show!) You guys had machinehead on a previous tour as support act with you.You were very satisfied with them as the wnt to you on the american tour as wel. Kerry King: I really wanted them to join yes,to australia as well but they could not make it. Right.. they did dynamo open air plus a headliner tout through europe.I've seen you on that tour..must be very heavy..was it? Kerry King : it was quite heavy, but not more than other tours we did......we had lost of fun together. sure thing, still there were some dificulties with the other band and its drummer..sound like something you migt know!?......................... Kerry King ;indeed; I think theres something it all drummers genes that does not belong there. Later on after finisching Undisputed Paul left slayer in1996 as he wanted to do other suff in music and goes on with truth about seafood ,red...something he was doing just before joining slayer. John Dette former testament drummer joined slayer but got fired in may 1997: he played eaverything they asked for..but he did the same while making a new album:he played the same as jeffs drumcomputer!..had nothing to addd or ideas of his own... Paul came back again after this"..the rest is known to all I think

Erik Schouten on loudwire 11-09-2014 The relationship between Slayer and former drummer Dave Lombardo has been less than amicable since the two parties split up, and just when we thought we heard it all, Lombardo has shared some surprising news. According to the drummer, he worked on all the new Slayer tracks that will appear on the band’s upcoming studio album.
Back in early 2013, Dave Lombardo claimed that his dismissal from Slayer was the result of a financial dispute. About a year later, Lombardo specified his grievance during a drum clinic in Ireland. The drummer told attendees that he only took home $67,000 out of Slayer’s $4.4 million gross in 2011.
Lombardo continues to speak out regarding his departure from Slayer, as he now claims he had made significant contributions to the music Slayer’s upcoming album, including the band’s recent single ‘Implode.’ “I worked on all of the songs that are going to be on the new album with Kerry [King, guitar],” Lombardo tells Thrash Zone. “They’ve been working on that album… s–t… for years now. ‘Implode,’ their new radio hit, is basically the guitar tracks that were done during my session, but they’ve removed my drums and added Paul [Bostaph's drumming].”
When asked further about the financial situation which caused Lombardo’s exit, the drummer was tight-lipped. “I really don’t want to touch on that subject anymore,” begins Lombardo, “because it seems like once the subject is brought up, the trollers on the Internet, they’re, like, ‘Oh, he’s f—ing complaining about money.’ It’s, like, no. I’m complaining about the mismanagement. I’ve moved on. There’s new things, better things to come.”
As for those “better things,” Lombardo will soon release Philm’s second album, ‘Fire From the Evening Sun,’ on Sept. 16. We exclusively premiered the album’s title track, so click here to check it out!

Okay NLLeeuw - this is coming at you from the most respectful place on earth.
First of all- take a deep breath.
Okay, next- look at things objectively and take the emotion out of it.
You are obviously heavily invested in Slayer, as am I. When you asked if I was 13, that is actually really funny, considering I was 12 when I was first introduced to them in 1985. I saw them when I was 13 and it was the most incredible and terrifying thing I ever did at that age. I came out of that show with blood and bruises on me- people were throwing M-80's into the crowd from the upper level- and I am still a fan of Slayer in general to this day.
I have seen them perform many times and supported the through the years. I played their music on my radio show when I was in college regularly. I got kicked out of a backstage area by Kerry King, had Tom Araya do a promo recording for my show, ate dinner in NYC with Dave Lombardo- do you see where I'm going?
Next free lesson is on opinions- they are just like assholes. We all have one and can even be one at times. You have to take what others have to say and digest it before you start spewing it all over them with bile. Slow down, follow step one (take a breath) and then reply calmly and intelligently. Also be permissive of others and what they might say, just as you would like everyone else to allow you to be heard.
Next- with regards to you attempting to insult me for liking Cannibal Corpse (or any band for that matter) you must think I'm mentally that fucking weak. What did you think- you might sway me? Hahahaha!!!! Good one! I like the bands that I like and that's that- if I listened or took every person's opinion of what I listen to, I wouldn't be here and would be an AC/DC fan or something. Metal is in my blood and no one is ever going to change that, and sorry to crush your ego- especially not you.
Lastly, with regards to Pat O'Brien- he didn't go begging them for the spot and he had very little time to prepare for that tour. He is a full time touring and writing machine for Cannibal Corpse. Do some homework on how much touring the band did for Evisceration Plague and then read the article regarding how Pat dropped everything for them and had only 5 or 6 days to prepare himself. He was also basically beefed by Slayer to fill in for them and was very reluctant and uncomfortable taking the position- there is nothing secret there. It's not as if Mr. O'Brien was sitting in his bedroom practicing and memorizing Slayer songs or had much opportunity to rehearse in a practice space. Practice spaces don't exist on the road either- it's called the stage. So if his performance didn't measure up, I'd love to see ANYONE pick up an axe with that much short notice and even get through 2 minutes on stage. I'd also love to give Kerry King a whole year to learn 'Frantic Disembowelment' off of The Wretched Spawn and see him play it on stage. It's always easiest to play the stuff you wrote, rehearsed, recorded and played a million times. From the perspective of a guitar player, you have to put the shoe on the other foot. Nobody is perfect, and I've heard Kerry and Jeff both fuck up on stage- yes, even they haven't always been on point with their own songs. Fact.
So in closing- I still love and respect you. However, I still think this latest offering by the current lineup of 'Slayer' absolutely fucking sucks and they should just hang it up.
Have a nice day! =D
NLLeeuw
weak excuses..you got kicked out by kerry? whahaha..I broke through security in rotterdam long time ago toghete with a friend of mine and ran to Kerry who was back stage:WE did not got kicket out:got all the signatures we wanted and talked with him..so this probly says more about you :D
And yes I was agitated by your reply..maybe more than you deserve, still I think its not a nice way to express yourselves:the one who replied after you was a lot nices(I also wrote this)
some others also speak with very hard words around here:I wont even start on this:would be totally spilled energy.
In my opinion Pat O'Brien still fucked up...He played show no mercy before for a couple of times: still he totally screwed up
besides all slayer songs can be thought: of each album there are books with notes
He's not a bad guitarist but nothing compared with anyone of slayer hahaha...fact: they will never get as far as slayer
and yes we all make mistakes:true thing!
