I just want to know if some of you guys have some tips for buttons and pins on your jacket/vest,because i always lose my buttons and pins on the mosh pit or just walking and the it falls and i hate it! thank you
That gets really old if you have a bunch of them or go to shows at least once a week as I tend to do.. I almost wanna just not have any on mine because I have lost some really cool ones that can't be replaced, but I like the look of them being on there.
I have since made another vest that I dont wear to shows to put my pins on and took them all off of the vest I wear at shows.. I go to far too many shows to deal with taking them on an off again all the time.
I've lost many pins from my vest when moshing. I usually just take off any pins I have on my vest if I'm going to some gig where moshing is to be expected.
I lost my beloved Black Sabbath 666 pin in the Toxic Holocaust pit! I hope who ever found the pin can appreciate it! I suggest sewing a stitch on the pin.
I nearly lost my life when VENOM played Wacken in 2000!!! I caught a signed drum head during the show, and man when the Germans saw me, I thought my last hour of life had come, haha!
Good way to secure buttons is to use safety pins. I use 2 safety pins for each button, just put them through the hoops of the button. Only downside I have noticed is that sometimes the pictures of the buttons get torn off. This one time a dude came talking to me after a Slayer show and asked me why do I have white buttons on my jacket : D
I get real rowdy in mosh pits... I'm building a vest, straight patches probably, but intend on dropping alot of cash on vintages beauties. Should I be worried about the saftey of my patches in rowdy pits? Any horror stories?
Only really if there's some asshole with a bunch of spikey gauntlets or something in the pit. Which there usually isn't, not at any gigs I go to anyhow.
It seems like almost every metal show now has moshing involved. I've personally witnessed people doing that at Manilla Road and Satan. I can understand moshing at death metal and thrash metal shows, but other than that, it's just inconsiderate towards other people who are way up front and are trying to enjoy themselves.
What's wrong with people getting down how they want to? I think it'd be fucked if they were pulling people in an shit like that.. but if someone wants to stand at a thrash show, that's cool.. if someone wants to mosh at a black metal show.. let em go for it, if you don't like it give em space. if you are worried about a pit starting up at any show and you think it ruins your time that other people are having fun, just stay home. .. that being said I'm not the kinda person to do it normally.. but I will on occasion join the fun if I am feeling it at the time.
I used to mosh when I was younger, now that I have 4 kids and a steady job that requires me to be there and physically exert myself, I can't really afford injuries, so my wife and I just go early and chill at the gate in front. Not to mention I've got severe back injuries from construction jobs so yeah...Get to see the band up close and admire the technical skill firsthand, catch picks and shit and still get the edge of some mosh pits and help crowdsurf other people haha Getting older sucks ass
My friend put rubber cement/superglue on his pinbacks. Only downside is once it is on you won't be getting it off without a fight.
If it is a quality pin you can bend the pin posts to the sides with plyers, that is what my uncle did on his old army uniform.
I just remove the pins now because as most ppl said here, lost them during shows and festivals and I hate that but for the last 2 years (so last year when gigs and festivals was a thing) I've been in the front for most of the shows and I prefer that way more than being in the pit but I still go there from time to time.
But now I'm working on 2 vests and one of them will have around 30 pins and the other one will not have a single one so if I know that I wanna go to the pit for that specific gig I just take the other vest with no pins and if I know that I'm gonna be on the front I'll just take the one with pins
I have these things called Pinsavers; They’re a metal backing held in place with a small grub screw (They usually come with the required Allen key) Inexpensive, and they work great!

I put 'em off the kutte and afterwards I put them on again.

Same, and about having some shows in a span of a week or 2, I just wait until all the shows are over and put them back on afterwards

I've actually taken the time to sew (somehow) my pins to my kutte so I wont need to worry about losing them.

I don't really mosh either, and tbh I don't even buy buttons anymore. I've got pin keepers for pins though.

Not really a horror story but stuff does happen :

But it's a battle jacket after all so go and have fun in the pit no matter how precious your patches :)
jdubz666 on
good point, i guess a battle jacket should be bathed in blood, sweat and tears regardless
oldmate on
Use lock pins, like said. I will not but pins on my jacket if I am going to a show
Freyjawulf on
I glue them shut.

yes! some genres fit moshing, others really don't. ive seen people trying to start a pit at a Saint Vitus gig. shits anoying as hell.

Try putting your patches under your collar/ lapel. Hope that helps

You can buy pin backers with a tiny set screw installed. They work great, but for that extra insurance I hot glue the remaining exposed pin.
Samppa666 on
When i had enough with losing my badges i started to use hotglue or heat-shrink tubing for taking away the safetypin - lock clearance.

Glue, or bend the actual pin sideways.
