Funeral jacket (clearly an 'after the battle' jacket), embellished with funeral flowers. Tribute to the original Swedish metal warriors.

There’s a significance behind the type of funeral flower and color of funeral flower.
Flowers have significance in every stage of the life cycle from birth to death. In death, flowers are a traditional way to honor the deceased, which is symbolic of the fragile, fleeting nature of life. It is thought that the natural beauty of flowers lessens some of the emotional burden that accompanies the visual imagery of funerals.

A brief history of funeral flowers -
Some think the first funeral flowers were used to mask the odor of body decomposition at President Andrew Jackson’s funeral in 1874. However, the earliest record of funeral flowers was actually from the Shanidar caves in Iraq, where a 30- to 45-year-old male neanderthal skeleton was found in the fetal position with pollen deposits from eight wildflowers.

In the 19th century, “flower ladies” participated in funerals by carrying flowers from the funeral home to the procession, and were responsible for arranging them at the cemetery plot for the families. This was considered to be as important as the role of the pallbearers.

Red flowers signify strength, respect, devotion and love.
Blue flowers represent sadness, sympathy and peace.
Orange flowers signify enthusiasm, joy and warmth.
Purple flowers represent respect, sorrow, sympathy and admiration.
Yellow flowers signify friendship, warmth and hope.
Pink flowers represent grace, compassion and innocence.
Green flowers signify nature, wellness and renewal.
White flowers represent elegance, reverence, purity and eternal love.
Black flowers are associated with mourning and remembrance, serving as poignant tributes to lost loved ones.

The lily is the flower most commonly associated with bereavement.
Purple Lilies are the largest flower on the jacket.
In Native American folklore, purple lilies were associated with the spirits of the dead, as they bloomed near burial sites. They were viewed as a symbol of rebirth and continuity, as the flowers would return every year in the same spot. Similarly, in ancient Egyptian culture, the purple lily was linked to the cycle of life and death, as its petals resembled the sun setting and rising.

Mysterious and striking, the black roses are that of death, mourning or tragedy.
Dark shades of blue roses mean mystery and a dream come true.
Lilacs contain a natural compound called indole that's found in flowers. It's that undercurrent of the “bottom note” of fragrance that suggests decay and death.

Other flowers included are: Forget-me-not (Myosotis sylvatica), lily of the valley (Convallaria majalis), buttercup (Ranunculus acris), ghost orchid or 'skogsfru' (Epipogium aphyllum), and the harebell (Campanula rotundifolia) which the national flower of Sweden.
These are indigenous species to Scandinavia.

The white embroidered flowers directly on the jacket are of the Sundrop flower (Campanula rapunculus) from the Rapunzel story. The flower has healing powers, and all gives off light, whether it be physical light or the light of realization.

The Dragonfly symbolizes change, transformation, adaptability, and self-realization. The change that is often referred to has its source in mental and emotional maturity and understanding the deeper meaning of life.

The butterfly symbolizes transformation, beauty, rebirth, hope, freedom, endurance, and love.

The Moth is associated with change, transformation, endings, death, and the mystery of the night.

In the realm of spirituality, the tree leaf emerges as a poignant symbol that embodies various profound meanings and conveys a sense of unity with nature.
With its subtle presence, it signifies the cyclical nature of life, as leaves transition through different stages from birth to death, akin to the human journey.

Made and worn especially for cemetery roaming, where I find the peace of the dead more comforting than the world of the living.
