Thanks fellas.
I am having one problem though.
This sounds stupid and somewhat childish. My grandma has been sewing these on for me. She's a very good seamstress and said she would sew the patches on for me.
Then we got to the Immortal patch, and she was very confused over the upside down cross, and was questioning if the band was against Christianity.
I said it was just a symbol and it means nothing, she forgot about it.
Now I have a 4 inch by 4 inch Poison - Into the Abyss patch. This cover is just an upside down cross, nothing else, not hidden in the image/logo.
I can sew the patch somewhere weeks/months later, and they wouldn't notice, but what if they do?
What is something I can say that is believable. I don't want to say the truth, because she might freak out.
I am sure this dilemma happens with every metal head, right...RIGHT??
If i do sew it on myself, which I can't sew for shit, where is a good location?
The top right collar bone area I have a Dark Angel logo patch.
I just don't want to end up with a battle jacket with so many patches, you can't see the jacket.
#1. Don't have your religious grandma make your battle jacket for you.
Seriously though, there will come a day when your sweet little grandma will be faced with the fact that you don't believe in Christianity. In fact, you're abhorred by it. Especially if you're going to be wearing inverted crosses on your clothing. It's a matter of discretion and avoiding the confrontation, or grabbing the bull by the horns and disappointing granny. Depends on how worth it you think it is to sport anti-religious symbols in front of your grandma.
I've had an inverted cross and 666 tattoo covering my entire left calf since 6/6/06 and at the time I had similar thoughts about it, when I should hide it, when I shouldn't. It's been a long time since I tried to hide it from anyone OTHER than my catholic grandma. It's just not worth upsetting an 80 year old lady over, so I don't shove it in her face. Funny how she asks about the cross in the Immortal logo, but ignores the bloody chainsaw and hatchet in the other patches. Religious priorities.
As for patch placement? You have a TON more room. Put that shit anywhere. I'd say you need at least 10 more patches before you have even a conservative battle vest.
I suppose you are right man. Thanks for your help and consideration.
I never realized that about spotting the bloody chainsaw, hatchet, interesting.
I feel like my placement wasn't the best. I thought this was enough patches, and after sewing was done, I realized I need more patches.
For example, Aura Noir and Emperor have a huge gap, I could have pushed Aura Noir up or down, and had another space for a smaller patch.
I thought of placing small logo patches such as the Bathory one in between these other patches to cover space up.
As for the back, I left some space between the small square patches for other small ones, but I have decided to try and fit in Demilich square patch and Poison patch there, as it is an exact fit in between.
Maybe for the front, I could get vertical logo patches to fill some gaps. This was just the base, I suppose, now to fill around the base.
I've found that part of the fun is rearranging the patches as you get more and have better ideas. Mine is far from done, and I don't know if it ever will be.
Quick question, how long does it take you to sew a patch? Just wondering because the Immortal patch covered the Maiden BP a little, and that part was very thick and the needle would barely go through. I see so many jackets with so many overlaps, how do people manage to do this?
Depends on the patch and your way of sewing how long it takes to sew it. It can be a pain in the ass sewing patch over patch and make the needle going through serveral patches and overlaping denim. For me always work thin needles and if necessary pliers to push and pull the needle through.
I survived sewing through 2 embroidered patches and 5 layers of denim and with pliers and patience it works. It's possible, just don't give up.
It's one way, but ask her for tips. It's always good to know how to make a proper seam if you need to fix some clothes. I'm sure your granny will teach you some good things. :)
And don't forget the fucking pliers! XD No joke, they saved my fingers sometimes from getting pierced by the needle while sewing Teresa. X"D
All hail to grannies! Btw if she ever asks again about the inverted cross and you don't want to face her the truth, just remind her of the original meaning of it as the cross of St. Peter. ;)
Yeah she has pierced her fingers a few times. She just won't let me do it, says she actually enjoys sewing for me. lol
Oh wow I just saw Teresa. WOW man very nice. I see what you mean.
Yes I did actually think of mentioning St. Peter in the past lol.
I know what she means, it can be really nice for relaxing to sew and embroider. Thanks, mate. :3
And if that doesn't work, just tell the truth in a modified way she doesn't get a heart attack, e. g. the bands just want to piss off people and authorities to show how tough they're - it's just show. (LOL People will stone me for that sentence.)
I have thought many things to say if she does question it or gets confused. Something like your idea. They trying to act tough and brutal and what not.
I don't think we can go out now. People might recognize us and stone us. HAha
It also wouldn't be a bad idea to just avoid patches with any anti-religious or satanic imagery; if you can't bear to have a battlevest without a certain band then get a logo--simple, but still wholesome--or at least a button (which you can put on or take off at your leisure) if you really want a particular image. Also weird how she didn't notice the Mayhem crosses, the pentagram on the Morbid Tales skull or the Candlemass patch period. Like Bubba said: weird priorities.

Just ask your grandma for sewing lessons. :D

I have noticed some patches, are very thick and this makes sewing very difficult.
Lol I have been watching her sew to learn a bit.

Sure thing man I will definitely try and learn more and ask for tips from granny!
