I figure the layout will impove with some studs. The two-tone colouring makes it feel a bit empty now.

That's a pretty cool idea to be honest. I usually don't like it when there's not a backpatch. It feels like something's missing. Like a beautiful frame without a painting. I think it will look great if you stud the hell out of it.

I've always been a firm believer that a backpatch anchors your vest, it's the focal point of the kutte. And should be reserved for your favourite of favourite bands. I'd personally rather have an empty back while waiting for a proper BP than to do this. But I'll give you credit for the idea.
