Meeting the Coop

Never in a million years did I imagine this would happen, but I met Alice Cooper. The price was rather high, but unlike Space Ace who I met at this same convention 3 years earlier, he couldn't have been nicer and more down to earth. Following the photo op, he did a Q&A session which covered everything from his Muppets Show appearance, his beef with Blackie Lawless, and the current state of rock music.

Ahhhh yes I wasn't aware of this until this weekend hahaha. Apparently back in the 80s, Alice was angry at W.A.S.P. because he felt they were a "carbon copy" of everything he had done in the 70s, musically and performance-wise. He went on to say he never had a problem with any other theatrical act as they created their own act, such as KISS, Ozzy, King Diamond, etc., but W.A.S.P. angered him "as an artist" because he had worked so hard to perfect his craft and now here was a band that was making a living off of his show. Eventually Alice and Blackie became friends and Alice noted the most ironic part is that now Blackie too is a born again Christian.

Very interesting actually! Though i would never see any parallels musically, considering Alice's older 70s Stuff was mainly soft Rock n Roll (still great of course, but has nothing to do with W.A.S.P. in my opinion...)
Killer Shots of course!

Yeah musically I don't see how W.A.S.P. was a "ripoff" of Alice Cooper. I could see how the early 70s stuff would be a huge influence (as it is on many hard rock/metal acts), but I always considered W.A.S.P. to take more from Motorhead, Venom, and Motley Crue musically.

Yep, agreed.
